If you are from out of town and do not look like a cycling enthusiast - prepare to be ignored and to receive some plain nasty service. My husband and I were staying within the Presidio and so this was a convenient location to rent bicycles from. We were wanting to use the bikes for more than one day as our primary mode of transportation. They told us it was full price for the first day and half price for every day after. Fine, cool. When we returned the bikes the next day, there was no service at the return counter. We waited for someone to return and then when someone did, they went immediately helped the person behind us, was nice to him then never came back. After my husband tracked the employee down, he informed him that we needed to return bikes as well. "And....". Nothing. He did not help us. Then when my husband found another employee who would actually scan the bikes in, officially, his comment was "That was a quick ride." When my husband informed him we had rented them the day prior, his response was "Oh, well we don't rent for multiple days". Um......1. It wasn't a full 24 hours, 2. Obviously you do because the person the day before gave us the quote. Totally disorganized and rude on top of that. These people are awful. I will make sure everyone I know visiting, will not rent...
Read moreI came to SF hoping to rent a bike for a short solo excursion and left with an awesome adventure. SF and Sports Basement Presidio - I will be back someday!
To the short people out there - this place actually has bikes! Finding a road bike my size (44cm) is usually a challenge but I was surprised, and with luck it was actually the same model I myself own. Hooray!
The online order was seamless and when I arrived I found my bike rental ready to go. Logistics aside, the rental staff were knowledgeable, down-to-earth, and thoughtful (one offered to help another customer move some large items to her car). A shout-out thank you to Sam - You’re awesome. He helped with some adjustments and provided helpful tips and hilarious advice. I had a vague idea of routes I wanted to try but he provided a longer, adventurous route that I loaded into my computer and off I went. I get the feeling that people here really enjoy riding (or whatever outdoors) and want you to have a great experience too. By luck, I ran into Sam as I neared the end of my route. Got amazing views and surprise good cheer. Super appreciative I got the encouragement to explore further and see so much more than my initial wavering plans at the start.
The rest of the store is vast! I did some shopping afterwards and bought some bike...
Read moreLove the concept of the store and can't beat the location 🙌... the staff were walking zombies. Trying to make eye contact with the living dead was impossible. I had to literally chase one down trying to get assistance. Mind you there were literally 10 in the area I was standing chatting each other up. I would start to walk twords them and it became a game of Pac-Man. We started darting the square piles of merchandise. It almost became fun 😄 trying to see which one I could get. They also darted around like the little ghost 👻 pushing each other around trying to look busy and move to a different area. The store is open concept... there was no place to hide. I can't fault them in their efforts to try and hide/avoid assisting customers. They were noteworthy. Once I nabbed one ...he was useless. He called another one to try and help. He also was of no assistance and he must have signed a forbidden secret 😉 not going to go beyond basic training to get help or answer to basic questions and merchandise inventory. I left with my money in my pocket. I won?...
