Memorial Park is the perfect addition to a downtown San Leandro Adventure! Memorial Park in San Leandro is two blocks from the library and two more blocks from downtown. There is a parking lot, bathroom, two covered picnic areas (one very close to the parking lot the other behind the playground), a small rose garden, walking paths, grassy areas and a memorial honoring the residents of San Leandro who gave the ultimate sacrifice in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam.
There are two separate play areas. One is very large and almost completely gated. Inside is a multi level play structure with steps, two slides, (a straight slide and an s shape slide), various ladders (some I've never seen before), a short tunnel, monkey rings, and learning activities. There is also a balancing log roller activity.
The kiddie play area is in the gated area but then has its own gate around the structure. The structure is shorter with a slide, a short tunnel, steps, and a vehicle looking sitting area. The fence around this kiddie area has activities built into it. Although this is a kiddie area, some of the activities and steps are a tad higher off the ground than normal. Along with the two play structures there is a big swing set with both bucket and standard swings.
The other play area has a smaller structure with two slides (tube and spiral), steps, various ladders, and a big plexiglass wall for looking out to the people below.
The amount of people at this park usually depends on the day of week and...
Read moreIt is very small, about one block wide and half a block deep. It takes about 60-90 seconds to walk through if you're moving at a zombie shuffle.
It has a lot in that space: two playgrounds, bathroom, multiple grills, plenty of seating, and a respectable amount of grass and trees... Given the space.
If the garbage made it into the ample trash bins, it would probably rate 4 stars. I am guessing kids from the nearby school, homeless campers, or both.
It is just so tiny. It would never rate 5 stars because all you can do is visit the playground or sit. The walk or drive to get to it is far longer than the time you can spend walking around enjoying it.
Given all the trash I mentioned, It clearly doesn't get any attention from the parks department. Even when I see a Parks worker, I never see them picking up any of the garbage or doing anything to...
Read moreUsed to take my kid here all the time, there would be an occasional "drifter", but they wouldn't stay. Lots of playing kids and great parents. Today, there was a group of older Hispanic men, about 20 or so, no women, hanging out in the barbecue area between the parking lot and the play area. They had cases of beer, they were drinking and some had red cups. Didn't feel comfortable at all with my daughter there. Not the appropriate place for grown men to be hanging out and drinking liquor. Go home and do that guys, park is...
