Taqueria Los Pericos San Leandro, CA
I recently visited Taqueria Los Pericos on May 26th, 2025, and unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. I ordered six super tacos, which totaled nearly $45. After placing my order, I had to wait for the tacos to be prepared, and I left the restaurant excited to enjoy what I hoped would be a delicious meal.
However, when I handed the food to my son about 10-15 minutes later, his immediate reaction was one of disgust. The tacos looked sloppy and were overloaded with cheese. I opened my own container to take a look, and I was met with the same appalling sight. The tortillas were drenched in an excessive amount of orange taco grease, resembling a greasy spread rather than a fresh taco. It was clear that these tacos were not up to standard.
I decided we couldn't eat this food and promptly drove back to the restaurant. During the drive, I called Taqueria Los Pericos to express my concerns, and the woman who took my order acknowledged my complaint and offered to remake the tacos. However, I felt that it was too little, too late; the food should have been fresh and well-prepared from the start.
Upon my return, the same woman, who wore glasses, looked at the unfortunate mess they served us and mentioned that it had been an hour since my order—contrary to my belief that it hadn’t been that long. The tacos were so greasy and mishandled that they were practically unrecognizable. After I received a refund, the woman became rude, telling me never to come back again. This encounter left a sour taste in my mouth, and it was evident that customer service was not a priority for them.
Not to mention she did all of this in-front of other customers that were sitting there dinning as she caused a big scene.
Overall, my experience at Taqueria Los Pericos was disappointing. The food was cold, greasy, and simply unacceptable for the price I paid. I cannot recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for authentic Mexican food. It’s unfortunate, as I was hoping for a satisfying meal but was met with sloppy preparation and poor customer service. Save your money and look elsewhere for a better true authentic Mexican food experience.

Read moreDisappointing Experience with Overcooked Burritos and Unappetizing However I have visited this establishment three times now, hoping for an improvement in the quality of their burritos, but unfortunately, my experience has been consistently disappointing. The main issue I have encountered is that the burritos are excessively filled with rice, resulting in an unbalanced and unsatisfying meal. Additionally, on each visit, I noticed that the meat was burnt, which further detracted from the overall taste.
Recently, I decided to give their breakfast burrito a try, assuming it would be a different experience. However, to my dismay, the sign clearly indicated that it would contain rice, which was unexpected for a breakfast option. Despite this, I decided to give it a chance. Unfortunately, the breakfast burrito was also overloaded with rice, making it difficult to enjoy the other ingredients. When I brought this issue to the attention of the staff, they insisted that I had already consumed a significant portion of the burrito, even though I had only eaten about a quarter of it. Their refusal to acknowledge the problem left me feeling frustrated and dissatisfied. In conclusion, my repeated visits to this establishment have left me with a negative impression. The excessive amount of rice in the burritos, coupled with burnt meat, has consistently resulted in an unappetizing experience. The inclusion of rice in a breakfast burrito was unexpected and did not contribute positively to the taste. Moreover, the staff's refusal to address my concerns regarding the excessive rice only added to my disappointment. Lastly, the lack of flavor in the food made it difficult to appreciate the meal. I hope the management takes these points into consideration and works towards improving the quality of...
Read moreLos Picos has been my go-to spot for years—I've been coming here since high school, and it’s still one of the best taquerias around. The place is always spotless, easily one of the cleanest taquerias I’ve ever stepped foot in. There’s plenty of parking in the surrounding area, so you never have to stress about finding a spot.
One of the things I’ve always appreciated is the atmosphere. They’ve got the TV on at all times and are more than willing to switch it to whatever channel you ask for. The customer service is top-notch—the staff behind the register and the servers are some of the most polite and welcoming people you’ll find in any restaurant.
Now, let’s talk about the food. My longtime favorite has been the al pastor, though I’ll admit it’s changed over the years—it’s still solid, but not quite what it used to be. That said, their grilled chicken and shredded chicken are both excellent alternatives. I don’t eat beef, so I can’t speak on their carne asada or barbacoa, but I can vouch for the shrimp burrito—it’s legit. Unlike other places that skimp on the shrimp or slice them in half, Los Picos loads up their burritos with whole shrimp, and they don’t hold back on the portions.
My go-to order is almost always the super al pastor burrito or the grilled/shredded chicken super burrito. No matter what you get, this place never disappoints. Definitely recommend...
