Great Park! Several trails up, around and all over the hills. Picnic and gathering space in the lower areas. Play structures for children. With a few open fields and also a couple of built in barbecue pits. It's a Beautiful variety of trees and bushes for those who recognize different types and understand how many different trees and bushes aren't actually native to N. California.
There's also a constant melody of birds singing and chirping, excellent for bird watching. The most amazing thing to see is the interaction of birds. From the tiny song birds to crows and hawks. I've been at the park when the chirping gets loud and aggressive. Then I hear frantic chirping and screeches, and all of a sudden there's silence. When I start to look around, I see a large hawk or a falcon circling slowly. Even landing in a large tree and bouncing across a few branches. I assume looking for a meal. Then a few small birds came and started getting at the big bird with loud screeching while flying directly at it, forcing it back in the air. Then circling it, taking dives at it from different angles in a coordinated attack. They were driving it higher up and further away from the area.
But there's nice people hiking throughout the day. Bicyclers riding the trails and they seem to be coexisting well. And I've seen a couple of musical groups gather and practice where they have a large gazebo setup like a place to perform at the edge of a field. Overall a great park to visit for a picnic, hang and chill, hiking, bike riding and...
Read moreI never knew about this place. Found it through San Pablo Health Centers Walk with a Doc program. This place is huge, lots of trails to enjoy, beautiful views of Richmond, and lots of picnic areas to enjoy food and friends. Here you will find a wide variety of trails; it even connects to Tilden Park in Berkeley. I'm still not sure how far it goes. You will also find some of the most breathtaking views in the Bay area. And the picnic areas are large and plentiful. There are tables to sit at, green spaces to play in, and trees and coverings to keep cool in the shade. Oh and the bathrooms are pretty nice too. I would highly recommend this place to any adventure seekers. The trails can be steep, so be mindful that not everyone will be able to make the trek, but there are easier trails near the picnic areas. And the trail to Tilden Park is pretty flat, so that's also a possibility for those who don't like hills. And lastly the parking lot is pretty big, I don't think you would ever come here and not be able to...
Read moreI used to hike here with friends back in the 1970s to smoke weed before it became a park. Spring is my favorite time with all the mustard plants in full bloom covering acres at a time, like it used to be when the Indians were the only humans here. Great views of the Richmond area with S.F. and the Golden Gate bridge in the distance. Very tranquil, quiet, with an occasional cry of a bird of prey overhead looking for a meal. Great place to recover your sanity, far above the maddening crowds. Dogs allowed if on a leash. Bring doggy bags and coat for those summer afternoon winds through the Golden Gate. They let the cows loose in the summer, so don't forget to latch the gates.
Access from "Wildcat upper entrance" at the end of Monte Cresta Ave, San Pablo CA 94806. This is a residential neighborhood, please respect their "peace and quiet enjoyment" or we...
