TL;DR: cosmetic “fix” broke the phone and met with dismissive service spoken with a cordial tone.
Be forewarned: The 4 and 5 star reviews you will read are those from people who could do it themselves with some specific tools and a YouTube video.
In our case, we had a cracked back and cracked glass over one of the cameras. Other than the cracks, the phone operated perfectly normal minus a slight smudge and poor coloration in pictures due to the crack. Instead of offering any in-store service, he comes to your house (because according to texts, “his store got robbed”). On one hand this is convenient; on the other hand, TRULY UNCOMFORTABLE. Also, instead of bringing any space-protective mobile work-kit, he completed the work in his Car – not a mobile workstation or van, but just in the front seat of an older sedan. He was courteous when he came to the door and completed the “repairs” in about an hour or less - phone looked like new. (Courtesy was strained a little when he saw our family artwork in an interchangeable frame (we have toddlers) and proceeded to open it up, causing the artwork to fall out - not a big deal, just a little intrusive). Cameras were replaced and the backing was replaced. Phone looked as good as new, so we were pretty pleased, but then… My wife tried to take a picture…so excited to see a sharp, crystal clear image. What she found was that in Portrait mode, the camera could not keep focus. It would focus for about 1 second before attempting to refocus…rhythmically at about a single Hertz. Suffice it to say, Portrait mode no longer worked. (Also context note: we have kids…portrait mode was one of the big reasons we picked the phone when we did). In reaching out (via text), we received paragraph long responses defending his knowledge of the repairs and dismissing/not responding to our concerns. Ultimately, he claimed he had seen it once before and it was because of a bad motherboard or a [processing] chip cracking when removing the back plate. A simple google search said otherwise, and when plied, he again defended/dismissed, ultimately suggesting that he could do “another” repair (I just heard “another charge,” despite saying his repairs are guaranteed), but ultimately said nothing would work and we would have to live without portrait mode. In this description, he talked about using cameras from other original [phones] - so to fix my wife’s phone, I assume he is cannibalizing others. All that said, I took it to a professional. Nothing wrong with the motherboard: confirmed there was debris in the camera lenses - portrait mode was trying to focus on a near imperceptible speck on the lens. According to that technician, it’s a pretty common occurrence that is often a result of loose dust and faulty parts handling, both of which are likely as the workspace was not ideal for the repairs. After this, we were convinced enough to go to the Apple Store to trade in all of our iPads and other devices to get a new phone…AND pay for the Apple care. Ultimately we feel that we should get our money back, but at this point we want to cut all ties - it feels risky (didn’t even reach out to him about it). Just know that it’s only 60$ to file in small claims court and if your bill is 250$ to 400$, it could be worth it to recoup the loss. My recommendation: Avoid the headache, sadness, gaslighting, and trauma of losing a beloved device. Just avoid this business at all costs...
Read moreThis place is so unprofessional. BEWARE!!
They give $5 off your bill to write a review BEFORE they service your device. Oh yeah and he has you pay upfront, before he even starts the work.
Thought this was kinda of strange, now I am seeing that the owner does this to gain really high ratings, and then doesn’t care to do a good job, b/c he already his 5 star review.
Here is the nightmare…
The display on my MacBook Pro needed to be replaced b/c of a crack. everything else was working great otherwise the owner was trying to upsell, and recommend replacing the battery as a preventative measure. I am kicking myself for allowing him to convince me to replace the battery, especially since it was holding a charge just fine. During this whole ordeal, I learned that Apple makes it virtually impossible to replace the battery without destroying the computer. How does an owner of a computer repair shop not know this!!
2 weeks went by, I never received a call or email about updates on my computer, so I called them, apparently it had been finished the day after I dropped it off. But he didn’t bother to let me know.
I told them I was on my way to pick it up. When I get to Tech MD, the owner saw me at the counter, but proceeded to finish scolding his employee for like 10 mins.
Then in a rude way he’s like “can I help you?” I’m like “yeah I just got off the phone with you to pick up my computer”
After he brings out my computer, I ask where my charger was, he then says “are you sure you left it with us”. This perturb me so much as I left it with him b/c he said he didn’t have a Mac charger. Thank god I wrote my name on it.
He then took another 15 mins looking for my charger in his disorganized disaster of a workshop. Only to hand it back to me with greasy fingerprints on it. clearly he had been using to for his own purposes.
I asked if I could plug it in to be sure it worked, b/c this behavior had me concerned.
He told me that he did have time for that. Again, kicking myself for being too easy going
Well, I get home and my computer didn’t turn on. I call them immediately and told him this. He said he wouldn’t do anything and it’s not his problem, he had no remorse for his negligence, and offered me nothing for all the time, money, and lost data cost me.
The worst service I have ever experience in my life, across...
