I recently played 18 holes at Sanibel Island Golf Club with a longtime friend and golf partner. Despite the recent hurricane and storms, we were pleasantly surprised by the course's condition. The night before, Drew texted to inform us that the course was still recovering, mentioned limited cold beverages, and let us know we could bring our own drinks. Upon arrival, Drew greeted us with a smile, a cart, and a briefing on the course. After warming up on the putting and chipping greens, we headed to the first tee. While the course bears signs of the recent 100+ mph winds and flooding, its beauty still shines through. The tees and fairways are green and dry, with drop zones available where necessary, as is typical on any course. The greens, though lightly sanded, are healthy and roll true. A highlight of the round was the abundant wildlife, from pelicans and wood storks to alligators and iguanas. I encourage you to support Drew and his family by playing this gem now and...
Read moreSuch a fun course to play while visiting Sanibel. The owners are incredibly nice people which makes the experience even better. Lots of improvements have went into the course recently. Rates are more than reasonable for an island golf club. Beautiful scenery and wildlife (bald eagles, alligators, iguanas). Another big plus is the restaurant that's attached to the golf course (Blue Giraffe). The food is really really solid here, and you can place a to-go order when you are almost to the turn. We recently visited with some friends for an annual golf trip and the owners went above and beyond to accommodate our outing. Very, very laid back atmosphere unlike the other nearby courses that have rangers constantly watching you like a hawk to make sure your pace of play doesn't fall behind by 2 minutes. If you forgot to pack enough golf clothes, the clubhouse offers an abundance of awesome island golf attire. I definitely recommend playing this course if you...
Read moreI am an occasional golfer, and I hadn't played at Sanibel Island Golf Club for a couple of years (back when it was Beachview Golf & Tennis Club). I visited the course a couple of times this fall, and was very, very pleased to see just what a great job the new owners have done to bring the newly re-named Sanibel Island Golf Club back to a high level of respectability. The course has a great layout, and it's certainly challenging, but without the fear of every hole being a "water hole." The course has a nice variety of vistas, and seeing native vegetation and wildlife is an added bonus. Best of all, the new owners, Drew and Ed, take the level of service to an all-time high. They both have country club backgrounds, and they make even the casual golfer feel like they are playing at "the club." Well done,...
