I got the BEST hat in the world at the Portobello Hat Shop. The lady who runs it is incredibly nice; she totally gets that trying on a hat, finding the right hat, takes time and effort. She was so patient, and friendly without being intrusive, and helped me go through just about every hat in the store until I knew I had the right one. Her hats are all beautifully made and sized to really fit correctly. I found a Panama style, natural woven plant fiber hand shaped and lined. Read moreProverbial hat tip to The Hattery! I live in San Francisco and have a collection of vintage hats. There’s no one I’ve found locally who can reshape, block, or bash a hat exactly the way I envision. After a Google search, I came across The Hattery — nearly 50 miles away.
After speaking with Jane, I decided to take the risk and make the drive. I brought in a vintage wide-brim Resistol cowboy hat that I wanted trimmed down. Jane took one look and confidently said, “3¼ inches will fit that hat perfectly and look great.” She was absolutely right.

I’m wearing a custom made Shady Brady hat which is excellent, stylish, breathable and light weight. I bought a second Shady Brady in black, as well as a fabulous pork pie hat. My boyfriend just bought a fantastic Akubra fedora. They have hats to fit every budget and all of them are excellent for the price. Very fair.
