Quaint and beautiful little library, with an exceptional staff. While I’m impressed by many things about this little library, my favorite offering here is their story time program. I have a little toddler who just loves books, so we’ve been to our fair share of story times between Salt Lake and Utah County in the last few years and this is the very best one we’ve been to BY FAR. They offer story time four times a week, on two different days—the stories and songs take up about 25 minutes of the time, and then there is always a craft afterwards that relates to the theme of that days story time. The children all sit on a little rug so they can see the book being read up close, while caretakers/parents watch from rows of seats next to it. While the organization of the story time here is a great recipe for gaining and keeping the attention of the kids—what makes this story time GREAT is the reader. An absolutely lovely human named Ms. Anita reads to the kids each week and SHE. IS. EXCEPTIONAL. I haven’t seen a librarian who comes close in skill set and whimsy to her, the kids just sit in awe and listen to her every word and you can tell by their little faces that they are enchanted. She makes the effort to remember names, and talk to everyone who comes to visit. It’s a whole experience, and it’s one of the very most important rituals my toddler looks forward to most every week. I can see her confidence grow when she’s at story time, and the positivity it adds to her life—and it’s all because of Ms. Anita and the heart she...
Read moreWe love this library, it’s got the “small town” feel—and size. Wish it was bigger, but I’m sure that would change a lot of the things that make this library special. The gothic windows and winding staircase are lovely! As far as books, they only have one set of Harry Potter—but the picture book selections are fantastic for kids. We are able to find books here (historic texts for grad school classes) that aren’t at Payson or Springville. You may or may not be able to place a hold on a book online, but if you do it’s waiting for you! Although you cannot conveniently check out digitally, the librarians are always very helpful and kind. There is only one couch upstairs, but it’s overlooking the entire library and quite popular with patrons. We keep coming back, and are grateful to...
Read moreDon’t check out kids books, I got charged for damage my child didn’t do. Most of their kids books if not all are pretty raggedy so the risk vs benefit is not worth it.
As carefully as the books may be checked when they are returned, the books aren’t checked for damage at time of check out. There is the risk that others are damaging the books while perusing. I should have called when I saw damage to the book that we didn’t cause but I didn’t know to do so. That could be something gone over with people when they get or renew their library cards.
Again, consider my point of view, I got charged the price of the book, and the injustice of it is cautionary. And I appreciate the pride you have in your library, but your kids books are...
