One of the worst theatres I’ve been to. I’m an avid moviegoer, and have had a wide range of experiences at all kinds of cinemas, but this was just a disgrace.
Before I get into the rude, apathetic staff—who really set the tone for how abysmal this experience was going to be for me—I’ll talk about the movie-viewing experience itself.
The set-up of this theatre is strange and feels lazily slapped together. Their prices are slightly less than the average multiplex ticket, but the experience overall is a total joke. The theaters themselves look like big empty closets with a bunch of cushy seats haphazardly placed about it, no slope to the floor so the screen is blocked by all the chairs in front of you. The projection is weak and cheap, the video quality looking grey, dim, and washed out. The speakers are tinny and blown out, and the air conditioning is louder than anything the speakers can put out.
Now, on to the terrible experience I had with the staff. I want to preface this by saying i have worked at a theatre before, I’ve been behind the concessions counter, I know how exhausting it can be. But I never treated a customer with the callousness that this lady did with me.
I have chronic migraines, so I carry a water bottle with me everywhere I go to stay hydrated. If I’m not always sipping on water, my chances of a migraine coming on immediately skyrocket. I have brought my water bottle with me to the movies hundreds of times, and never has anyone had a problem with it. And I often will still buy something at the concession stand to compensate for it if I have the extra money to spend! Things seemed fine at first. I came up to the counter, greeted the lady, and purchased a ticket with my friend. After I was given my receipt/stub, I started to walk off, but was suddenly stopped when she said, “by the way, you have to leave the water bottle, you can’t go inside with it.” I explained to her my medical condition, and all she did was roll her eyes at me, as if I were just making up an excuse. Then she told me, in an annoyed voice like I was the problem, that the theatre sells water, so I can’t bring my own. I tried explaining further, but she just stopped me and said that I would either have to leave, or “throw away” my bottle (which made no sense since it wasn’t plastic, it’s a reusable metal one?) She then said my options were either to buy one of their bottles, or get a cup. Usually when you get a cup of water at a theatre, it’s offered free of charge, so I relented and said that I’d take a cup. She then pulled out a tiny paper cup, and with a huge grin on her face, said “that’ll be 7 dollars.” 7 Dollars. For a little cup of lukewarm tap water. I couldn’t believe it. She was literally just scamming me at this point. However, I had no other options at this point, as the movie was about to start and I didn’t want to hold up my friend who was waiting for me, so I agreed and paid for it. I’m really shocked that a movie theatre is still perpetuating this policy in 2024. And I’m even more shocked that this woman got so much enjoyment out of barring me from entering the theatre until she could scam me out of $7 more bucks. I do not think I will be returning to this theatre anytime soon. I will always support going out to the movies, but this is not the way to...
Read moreThis was my first time visiting since they opened. It's much better than the theater that was in this location before. Everyone was friendly and helpful as soon as we walked in. We were able to purchase our tickets right away and pick our seats at the time of purchase. It's so bright and clean. The restrooms were also clean. We went to see The Batman in theater 3 on Saturday night. Everything was great until about an hour into the movie. A bunch of loud kids came in and were very disruptive. They had their cell phones out and kept sitting down and standing up, then walking around and talking to each other. Horrible theater etiquette, but not the first time I've experienced this sort of thing. It was however the first time I've experienced anyone smoking in a theater. It would have been irritating enough and as much of a fire hazard if it were just cigarettes, but it definitely wasn't. I left the movie to let one of the employees know. He asked me where they were sitting said he would be in ina few minutes to check. He never came in and the annoying, stinky kids finally left about an hour before the movie ended. This doesn't bode well for the theater if that is how they handle situations like that. Not sure that I will be back if this is the kind of experience they offer. Wish I had a better experience and could leave them a five...
Read moreI grew up with the older theater here that has re-opened and close twice since the 90's. I miss the nostalgic look and smell of the old-timey feel. This theater re-opened in March and I was skeptical they'd have recliner chairs like Pooler but I've been to maybe 10 movies here and I love it. Sure I miss the old look I grew up with as a child, but the place looks completely different now and modern. New carpets, new recliner seats, everything. I no longer have to go all the way out to Pooler anymore.
Best of all, the prices are cheaper than other theaters, even on days other than Tuesday. Popcorn is self serve and cool, and multiple self service Coke freestyle machines. Clean bathrooms and the employees are all friendly.
I went a few months ago to see The Northman, and their A/C had issues. Corporate gave me free passes which I eventually used to see Top Gun Maverick.
I will say, now that this theater is the only theater that serves the surrounding downtown, midtown and Islands areas, it's packed every weekend. Especially because of the new amenities. So I highly suggest picking out which seats you want online and buying the tickets aheaed of time. Because if you're going to a popular movie even on weekdays, you could possibly not get the best seats you want (although I've been to almost every theater inside now and haven't really had...
