We stayed at one of Brigadoons vacation rentals in Sequim, Washington. It was not up to our standards and we let them know, we lived with it and told them that we would not publicly post our complaints but thought they might like to know for their future guests. They thanked us for not posting our displeasure. There was a large list of things they could improve.
We did not complain publicly and they sent us a letter informing us that we could no longer rent from them because we left the place disorganized and filthy.
We were accused of stealing dining ware - I dine using Wedgewood, Forsland and Spode in my home, why on earth would I steal something that was probably purchased from a cheap discount store.
They said we left the closet doors off the tracks - I didn’t even use the closet and if it was off the tracks it was most likely from a previous guest. Perhaps one that didn’t dine on fine china and decided they liked discount bowls, a cup and glassware.
They said we left crumbs on the stove, on the counter and under the couch - isn’t that what a cleaning fee is for? Are we to scour the place and then be charged for doing so?
The one thing we did do is we moved a rug and didn’t place it back exactly the way they had it and we rolled up this rug because we were tripping over it.
We were a problem to the company because we made them bring us trash bags for our garbage (they were out) and the fact that we complained about the state the stove, oven and utensils. The stove top had been damaged and only one burner worked properly and the oven was dirty and a grater was so cheap that it bent grating carrots. They got rid of their problem by denying us access to their rentals.
BTW - we have rented from them for years but never...

The upstairs was the highlight — spacious master bedroom, private bath, office, and ocean view. However, the downstairs was a completely different story. It was significantly colder, and the thermostat didn’t work for that level. It seems the hosts were aware of this, as there were three portable heaters already placed in the small downstairs rooms. Unfortunately, using them tripped the circuit, and we ended up freezing overnight — while the upstairs was far too hot.
The two downstairs bedrooms were very tight, with no space for a pack-n-play. We had to co-sleep with our baby, which wasn’t ideal. On top of that, the coffee machine still had old grounds from previous guests, and when I brought it up, no one offered to clean it. There were also no extra towels provided. When I asked about it, they told me to check an area I had already looked in — and mentioned was empty.
Check-out instructions included starting a load of laundry to wash the towels. For a place that costs over $800 a night, I think it’s unreasonable to ask guests to do laundry.
Pros - lots of deer visiting the backyard; fun...
Read moreToo many times over the past couple years, there have been issues at my Airbnb that only a well-organized and highly dedicated management company could handle and overcome. Just some of the issues my guests have reported include a failed modem for the internet, key lock issues, plumbing issues, HVAC issues, trash bin spills from the wind, etc. Yet through it all, my guests have consistently posted 5-star reviews for my property at the Airbnb website.
As an added bonus, everyone at Brigadoon is a joy to work with. I think I've spoken with them all by now, but mostly Sarah and Kathryn.
A lesser company would have not kept up with the demands of my guests, which in my case would have tanked the reviews, which of course would have resulted in fewer bookings. Not good if you're an Airbnb owner.
And there's more; the online financial reporting is timely, and my monthly disbursements arrive timely as well.
As an out-of-town owner, I am 110% dependent on a property manager. If you're an Airbnb owner with a property in the Peninsula region, you cannot afford to NOT...
