
Upon arriving at the park via the bridge near the local swimming pool I stood there admiring the wonderful view of the creek, three seconds into bridge and chill I was approached by a local man who spent the day drinking away his sorrows. I proceeded into the park with my newfound knowledge of the local population only to be greeted by another professional day drinker observing children from a far. By this point I wanted to be alone so I headed towards the famous salamander island. On my quick walk there I observed many signs of homeless folks. Once I got to this salamander island I was thoroughly let down by the lack of salamanders and the abundance of beer cans. So I left. This was Silverton's original city park, and the names on the park are two of Silverton's early founding families. The history is palpable; the stone gate is a treasure to behold.
At the back of the park a trail proceeds down the west bank of Silver Creek, and a footbridge leads across the creek to the city pool and a park stretch that leads to the public library and historical museum. Read moreI visited this beautiful outdoor community park on a quiet Monday mid morning. It appeared almost vacant, then became rather busy about 11:00 am. There are lots of mature trees, sidewalks throughout, and an extensive colorful playground set for young children. I noticed a picnic area that could accommodate a large group. I saw young mothers pushing babies in strollers, numerous toddlers playing, & dogs on leashes. There were also a few elderly people taking a stroll. There is also a walking bridge that crosses a small river that leads directly to another parking lot. Great park...
