Overall we had a great time here, and the price is incredibly reasonable for a full day of unlimited play at $10. The location is excellent, and there is a great selection of games of all types (cabinets, pinball machines, and some "wild card" game types like vintage TV gaming consoles and a hockey table).
TL;DR: For the significant challenges involved in owning and operating a business of this nature, the Upstate Pinball & Arcade Museum has really knocked it out of the park with variety, function, location, and pricing. We LOVE to see a business like this flourish, especially in lil' ole Simpsonville, SC!
For context, I grew up in a home with several pinball machines and jukeboxes and am quite familiar with those in particular and what goes into upkeep, etc. Out of all the machines present in this entire establishment, only one was truly "out of order", which I found incredibly impressive. There are so many things that happen with these machines, from burnt-out lights to stuck flippers, etc and all but that out of order machine and one other were working effectively. The other machine working less than optimally was because it had enough wear on the playfield that the ball was getting stuck in a crater and not auto-dislodging. This seemed to be an isolated incident specific to this machine, and with consistent play (LITERALLY all day every day) going on in a place like this, anyone who doesn't expect this sort of thing here and there is kidding themselves.
This business is great for so many things- we attended as part of a birthday party for our nephew, but I could also see this being an awesome date spot, bach party spot, or friends day out. There is something for all ages and all play styles, and there are a LOT of food/drink options nearby in and around the Warehouse at Vaughn's for before, after, or during a break from the games, since same-day re-entry is free with your hand stamp.
The one thing I wish I could change about this place would be its overall size- I know that there are additional challenges that come along with that, of course, and I will never complain about an area with more games, but it is tight quarters in there as it stands right now and as bigger people, my husband and I struggled to move around in the crowded environment.
This is all a perfect recipe for a place like this be successful, and we love to see it happening for the Upstate Pinball &...
Read moreWe took our kids to the arcade to investigate it as a possible birthday party location. They didn't have any step stools around (we also didn't ask), so only our 6 year old was able to reach the controls without assistance. They do have a lot of pinball machines and stand up video games. It's a rather impressive collection. We saw a few people bringing drinks back from Vaughn's right next door. Admission gets you open play until they close. This would be a good stop for a date night, on your way to another place or in between waiting for food nextdoor at Vaughn's. Our kids got bored rather quickly. They would have liked to see an air hockey table, and more driving games. I'm not sure these really fit with the theme of the museum, and there's definitely no space for such a game. We didn't see the party room that was advertised online, but also didn't ask. Our upcoming birthday kid decided this was not what...
Read moreAbsolutely worth the $10/person price. We were there for 4 hours and only left because we had a 40 minute drive home. We would have stayed longer had some of us not had to be up early for work the next day. The guy who runs this store is friendly and really seems to love this place. The pride he takes in giving this experience to people is evident in the cleanliness and upkeep of the facility. He even allows you to leave and come back on the same day without having to pay again. We plan to make this a regular place for family fun day. We took 6 people ages 12-42 & every one of us had so much fun. Do yourself a favor. Load up the family. Drive to this arcade. And enjoy your time stepping back...
