Train Town is a perfect place to take small children under 12. It's a miniature amusement park with a 20-30 minute train ride. During the train ride the train stops at a little island where there are goats and llamas to feed. For a quarter, you can get a handful of feed out of little machines that are stationed in front of the farm area. Then everyone boards the train again for another ride around the track until it drops you back off at the front of the park. There's a Scrambler ride, a carousel, a Ferris wheel, a mini roller coaster, and an airplane ride that's for little kids only. There is a refreshment snack booth with all kinds of food and drinks, and a small covered picnic area that has some games like Air Hockey and Foos ball. There are a couple of benches around a large fountain in the center of the park, and benches by the rides for people who aren't riding. Each ride is 1-2 tickets per person. The package we purchased when we arrived came with a train ride for 2 adults and 1 child + 6 tickets for rides. We ended up giving our extra tickets away when we left because the 3-y.o. we brought was done after the train, a carousel ride, and after she tried the airplane ride she was ready for a nap. I don't think she liked being alone on the airplane and had a small meltdown afterward - so it was time to go. She had a great time until it was time to go. It's a good place to go for a short outing since the park isn't too large and it's not too expensive either. I can't remember exactly how much it cost, but I would guess approximately $25 for 3 hours of entertainment without food or drinks. It made for cute pictures and is a low-key, fun place to take...
Read moreGreat place to take the kids. Very manageable in two hours, three hours at most, for kids aged 2 to about 8 or 9. You have a spectrum of 5 rides from the very tame carousel to the pretty intense roller coaster and "Scrambler". The sweet spot seems to be about 3 years old to 7. The namesake mini-train is great with a 5-10 minute stop at a miniature old West village with animals the kids can feed.
I give it 4 instead of 5 stars for a couple reasons. First, the operational logistics can make things painfully slow, like having a single operator running 2 rides. When this happens, you just sit there waiting for sometimes 15 minutes with the ride completely shut down and often no idea what's going on, when it will happen, or how long it will last. Also, sometimes they shut the rides down when staff takes breaks. Second, there is no organized queue for the train so it's a free-for-all when it pulls up. On a crowded weekend day, this makes for a lousy experience with people almost having to fight to get on the train. Third, the prices are a little steep. For a family of 4 with 2 little kids, it's $33 to ride the train. And on the carousel, a non-riding adult accompanying a young child has to pay; I've taken my kids to probably two dozen carousels and I rarely have had to pay for myself if not riding. Finally, like all amusement parks, they have a captured audience and so force you to overpay for unhealthy, processed foods. Sure, it's great to let the kids have ice cream and cotton candy when going to a place like this, but it would be great if at least the adults could get a decent meal besides hot dogs if we can't bring in...
Read moreExtremely apathetic, unwelcoming, and unprofessional staff. No outside food allowed, yet no whole milk for sale, just 2% chocolate milk. Crowded and only one ride can run at a time because they share a compressor/the have one crew member controlling multiple rides.
My husband, myself, and my daughter visited this park today, Aug 27th. At noon we stood in line for the carousel where the extremely rude young man running the ride said it would be a 4 minute wait. 4 minutes turned into 15 but then my husband and 1 year old daughter were allowed to get on the carousel, when my husband tried to give him their tickets the crew member snipped at him and said, "I'll collect tickets once the ride is going to start." My husband shrugged this off and picked a horse for my daughter to sit on. She was excited kicking her feet, she had been on carousels before and loves them. 14 minutes later the ride hadn't started and my daughter was getting fidgety and yelling. 5 more minutes passed and the ride had not started my daughter started to fuss. Then it was start time but the crew member came up and said, "I can't start the ride if she's crying." To my husband, the interaction had made her stop fussing and my husband said, "Okay." But the crew member just awkwardly starred at my husband and now confused (not crying) daughter until my husband just took her off. The Fariswell ride conductor didn't say one word to us and the train conductor was rude and cold. Completely a disappointing family trip to Sonoma. We left and will never come back. I will not recommend friends, in fact I plan to let everyone I know about...
