The most modern library I have been to so far. I remember seeing this building under construction, and now I have been able to experience it in its complete form. It functions as both a library and a recreation center, so there is so much to find here.
From the books to the computers to the tables and even the restrooms, everything is in pristine condition. Though, there is more to do than just study- there are makers paces for all ages, galleries, classes taking place, and readings often happening as well. They go beyond the basic accommodations, also offering breastfeeding rooms, and all of their utilities are functional. Not to mention that they have a park and near-direct access to the SamTrans ECR bus.
I am incredibly close to giving the South San Francisco Library a 5 out of 5, but I guess there are always areas to improve with anything. In my opinion, they could implement dedicated quiet space (which I don’t think they had), and the young adult library’s collection could be expanded. It was also unusually cold where I was studying, so maybe they could tweak their...
Read moreThis review is overdue. I really like the new library. I love that the kids and teens have their own floor, the many study rooms, and the little books-for-sale section on the third floor (I have bought many vintage books as Christmas gifts from there). My only two complaints are:
Parking: I wish the parking lot was bigger. I hope they expand it into the area behind the current lot, which is currently covered in bark.
Playground: The big kid area with the slide on the left side worries me. Once kids get up there, you can't see what's happening. I've heard kids yelling and crying, so I'm concerned about possible injuries or conflicts. As a mom of a child with special needs, I find this particularly nerve-wracking and have to be extra vigilant to ensure his and other kids' safety.
Overall, I really enjoy the library, but these issues, especially the playground, can be...

Parking definitely harder than old building. No accessible spots available.
Kids books on 2nd floor. Adults on 3rd.
Study rooms.
Lots of good stuff to explore, use, check out.
Old building had very big selection of books. Seems they have reduced available inventory in new building.
Library is now located in very busy area that includes Parks and Rec and Police Station across the street.
Entering or leaving Civic Way is a bottleneck. Stressful getting out onto main road. I predict problems in an emergency situation given location of police station (first responders) who may need quick access.
The roof of the new building is flat. Did they install solar? If not, why not?
New building has great views of San Bruno Mountain.
Playground and bike parking outside...
