I used to shop here quite regular years ago, especially the Archery department. For a box retail store, Rich and his crew in the shop had it looking and performing like a pro shop. Due to a promotion with my job, I moved across country several years ago. I just recently moved back and was planning on getting back set up with new archery equipment, but when I walked into the store, the archery department was completely gone, at least from where it used to be. I had heard that Bass Pro had acquired SW, and it shows in the way the archery is now stuffed over at the gun counter. I was in the store looking around at what little archery was left and after not getting acknowledged for over 30 minutes I finally cornered one employee and asked about several names I remember in archery from when I used to shop there. The employee I talked to didn't recognize any name I mentioned but did say that the store had went through numerous archery tech's over the past several years. The employee then suggested if I were looking for someone in particular I may want to see if they are working at Academy or Bass Pro. I jokingly said, "Isn't this now owed by Bass Pro?" He didn't think that was very funny. Great archery tech's are very hard to find, and I won't just let some kid that was taught how to cut arrows set up a new bow or work on my equipment. After leaving the store, I called the Academy in Olive Branch and the folks there were very courteous and told me Rich used to work with them and they hated losing him, but corporate had decided to shut down archery services and he left, but they did have his contact info. Read moreUpdated 03/06/2023:after a series of bad customer experiences, I’m going to give mgmt. a chance to look at this as an opportunity for improvement (not taking away anything from what I said in my original review). This is mostly for online to store. I Ordered hunting shoes, they sent super used ones, I’m talking someone wore them for a year or longer. The younger guy (manager) instead of apologizing, he decided to play the pointing fingers game and literally said “I did not ship these to you” great customer service. 2- ordered a rain fishing jacket, waited for 10 days, gave them a call and they could not find it, it never made it to the store. They held my money for another 2 weeks and would not ship me another one as I was leaving to a fly fishing trip. 3- ordered a rod, came in broken (not the store fault, more packaging at the warehouse because it happened twice), went to the store and found the same rod just 2 inches shorter but rings up $140 istead of $100 I paid for, asked super nicely if they could match the price so I don’t have to keep ordering online and it comes broken, well, the cashier called the guy at the rods area (John) who is not a manager, and he refused to even consider anything. Read moreWent last night 1/27/24 to pick up a holster and went to the gun counter to take a look at some that was on mind. Guy behind the gun counter was with a customer and he seemed very happy to be helping them and was very attentive to their questions but once it was my turn his whole facial expression changed as if I was a nuisance. When I was trying to ask questions he just did not want to help or give me any answers. This isn’t the 1st time this has happened with that older gentleman. Last time I went to pick up my diamond back AR after ordering online I went and the older gentleman was there and refused to accept my 2 forms of ID and treated me like I was a criminal. So unprofessional it took 2 other employees to come out and tell him that my forms of ID were valid. Once he heard that he turned and walked away no apology nothing. It seemed to me he doesn’t like minorities cause a few friends of mine have also had bad experiences with him. I won’t be doing no more business with them.
