After a long day in 90+ degree weather at a baseball field for 6 hours…wouldn’t you want to relax and take a long HOT shower. Well this is NOT where you want to stay. I stayed here for 6 nights and 7 days and had 1 day of half a hot shower. The first morning I let slide because we had to be at the stadium but 6:45am so I was have delusional but after talking to a few parents who were at the same hotel they said the SAME thing. NO. HOT. WATER.
I proceeded to speak to a front desk agent the next day who rolled her eyes and stated “I’m not sure what you want me to do. We know it’s an issue. The managers know. Plus we’re at capacity.” Ok…I’ve stayed at hotels for over 30 years even in HUGE 15 floor hotels in Downtown bustling NYC AND NEVER HAVE I EVER HAD A COLD RUNNING SHOWER. That’s not something I want to hear, especially with a bad attitude.
I pride myself in customer service and respect every one at every level in any industry, but I will warn you to not stay here if you want a hot shower.
Are the rooms/bathrooms clean? Yes Is the cleaning staff polite? Absolutely Overall was I pleased? Somewhat
I had no feelings on an upgraded continental breakfast but it sufficed for a quick snack and coffee option to get your day started. Also, Ice machine was on its last leg with a sign that said it’s broken basically. It had ice but two cubes came out every 5 minutes. No bueno.
My expectations were not high. The hotel is a 2-star. I chose based on availability not standards, so I knew what I was stepping into but no hot water and telling me you’ll “reset” is not good enough. I took a risk but as a member of IHG and other competitors know that I’m disappointed. The manager stated she would refund 1 nights stay. That never happened and I never asked for it. Quality customer service is being more polite and for management and owners…replace the water heater. Pushing a reset button is not a solution.
Now the area surrounding the hotel was PERFECT. Restaurants everywhere, tons of hotels, gas stations, shopping, etc. Southaven did surprise me for that so out of everything that was a win. The airport was literally 18 minutes away and if you’ve never been to Beale street and love blues and good food that’s also less than a 20...
Read moreThe avid hotel Memphis - Southaven is a 10/10 across the board! The exterior of the property is well-maintained and pristine. The front desk team is exceptional. Melissa made checking in to the property quick, easy, and enjoyable. She was kind, courteous, and welcoming! Each time I passed by the front desk, the team greeted me and offered their support in making my stay a great one. I was also impressed by the layout of the lobby. The furniture was well-placed, well-made, and brightly colored. The property has a super modern, energetic, fun feel with unbeatable efficiency and functionality. I would be remiss if I neglected to mention the wonderful avid aroma - there is a subtle, gentle, clean and crisp scent throughout the building. It is very pleasant and immediately puts your mind at ease without being overpowering. Did I mention the fitness center? Though moderate in size, this fully-loaded space packs a punch. I always appreciate a clean. up-to-date fitness center with water and towels! The lobby also has a water refill station and an ice machine with complimentary buckets for your convenience. You'll stay hydrated at avid! My room was absolutely phenomenal. The comfortable, thoughtful, efficient layout met all of my needs. Another sign of a superior hotel is the quality of the iron and avid has the best - a steamer iron, in fact, to help you professionally press your garments in the comfort of your room. I am sure it is not surprise that my room was spotlessly clean. I got a great night's sleep on the comfy mattress with cozy linens. Guests are provided with hard and soft pillow options to maximize their comfort. And to put the icing on the cake, the blackout curtains are 99% effective, which is perfect! Oh, and my room had a mini-fridge to store my delectable leftovers! The housekeeping team is warm, gifted, considerate, and customer service oriented. The facilities team is driven, talented, and committed. Each member of the avid team at this property is passionate about customer care and takes great pride in their role. They operate with excellence at all times. I am planning my next trip...
Read moreThis was my first time staying at an Avid. As as IHG Spire member, I just have not been impressed with recent stays at HIE and especially Candlewoods.
I had a last minute need to stay near Memphis so I used my points and drove out of the way to Southhaven to try out Avid.
This is a brand new property, opened a week prior. So I expected the property to have a great presence and to be sparkling clean. It was. I work in hospitality and have helped open hotels, including IHG so I may be a little extra picky. The check in experience took a bit longer than I expected. The rep had to call over another person as they were still new to this as expected. Only issue is that the person who was called over was on a FaceTime call and had his phone with him and placed it on the desk in front of us as he worked, and I can hear and see the person on the line. Also, I didn’t get recognized as a Spire member which is just something that rarely happens any longer anyway.
Other than that, loved the design of the property. The cute ice buckets, the interactive coffee maker in the lobby and added plus was the sugar free syrup selection.
The rooms are small but have smart designs for the single traveler. I wish there was a microwave but there was a small fridge . I know Avid was designed to compete with all the other brands on the single millennial business travel trend. There were counters that doubled as storage and seating, there were hooks and lots of lighting which all saves space and maximizes function. I liked the small built in desk but it was a little low - felt like a child size desk and I’m 5’4. Anyone taller would have a difficult time working.
The bathroom was of standard size and was clean and functional although I can tell where the construction punch list was rushed ok - caulk, a paint drop here and there.
Overall though I love the Avid concept and this property. I wished it was a multiple night stay and that I had the opportunity to use the fantastic gym and...
