Best hospital in the country, hands down. I would give ten stars if I could.
I'm a truck driver, and about a month ago I was coming through rapid city. Bad weather caused me to have to stay overnight to wait out the snow. While I was in my motel, my appendix apparently decided to let go. I went to the ER in Sturgis first to get checked out. They did some tests found out my appe did was going and sent me to Monument health in Spearfish.
When I got there everyone (and I do mean everyone) was welcoming, comforting and helpful. They got me in a room, started my vitals, and soon after my surgeon came in to discuss the game plan and options. The team they have there was on their game. The surgeon was clear and direct and I felt completely confident in the surgical procedure about to take place. Withing an hour of being there I was in surgery and going out from the anesthesia.
When I woke up it was all over and I was comfortably relaxing in my room. I can't express this enough, everyone that came into that room was an absolute pleasure to be with. They checked on me regularly. Anything I needed they brought it. They were funny, caring, comforting, and honestly the most hospitable group of people I've ever met. Even the wonderful woman who cleans up the rooms was asking if I needed anything. I've stayed in some pretty expensive hotels over the years and I've never been looked after better that I was at this hospital.
The experience was so good that I asked one of the nurses to give me a list of everyone's name who helped me so I could list them in this review. I have to shamefully admit that it was in my "goodie bag" when I left and I accidentally threw it away. For that I am very sorry to the team that worked on me there. You guys and gals deserve the credit and then some. I hope someone reads this review to yall someday and you will at least know that I am very appreciative and sincerely hope you all get the recognition you deserve.
From the bottom of my heart thank every one of you for what you do, and how you do it. The world would be abetter place of everyone operated like the team you have at this...

Last night was the worst night of my life, I got off work at 2 am started having sever nerve pain in jaw due to a wisdom tooth pushing on a nerve. I did not realize nerve pain could be so unbareable it induces anxiety attacks. coming to this Emergency room in spearfish was the worst mistake of my life. They tried to give me a blocker in the mouth and then pain medicine. According to my dentist that I went to immediately upon opening the same day said they put it in the wrong place in my mouth so it did not take effect, instead of listening to me and believing my pain š I felt ridiculed, humiliated and that I definitely offended the nurse when insaidbinfelt zero difference. The nurse had such an attitude and was completely offended that I was still crying in agony, my fiance wasn't there yet to help me and explain any further. I could hear them talking about the situation, she even came in the room the shut the door because my crying and panick attacks were distrupting everything and everyone I could imagine. I never once felt relief in this emergency room even after the 2 shots plus a nerve blocker. I was atbthe Spearfish ER for over 2 hours and NON of the pain was releived. I left the emergency room crying and clenching. It was very clear they cared more about if I had a ride then how I left them. I then had to go to Deadwood Emergency Room an hour later because the pain wouldn't stop. Deadwood Emergency room helped me. Thank you to Deadwood ER. They did everything Spearfish ER wouldn't. They actually listened instead of humiliating me. I am in disbelief of how I was treated and humiliated at Spearfish ER, any nurse that could blame the patient and ask me what I want because the blocker and pain meds isn't working needs to be removed from providing care to anyone. Spearfish ER made me feel bullied I saw the bully nurse more then the doctor. I will never go back to Spearfish Hospital they have no mercy there. Stick to Deadwood they care about...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was very concerned when I developed acute abdominal pain so far from home, from a town (we were deep in the woods) and inconsistent cell service. We pulled up this hospital on our phones through the mountains as our best option due to proximity to us. The pain was almost unbearable at that point and I winced and wailed as we drove 40 minutes to get there. Once to the hospital, my daughter and I were in a room in less than a minute. The nurse and doctor saw me within about 2 minutes. If I was in a city hospital it would have been hours before I got that kind of care and Iām Not sure Iāve ever had an ER experience with such impressive attention from the physician. Dr. Lee Bailey and his nurse Madisen exceeded my expectations but also my past experiences in other ERs in any city. They were personable, exceedingly prompt, highly competent, intelligent and delivered me exceptional care. Dr. Bailey was so calm and knowledgeable and got me out of pain almost immediately to where I was able to undergo evaluation and leave with a diagnosis. When I first arrived I could not sit or lay down or stand without doubling over and crying and he got me comfortable almost immediately. He was open minded to discuss different methods of evaluation because I did not want a CT off the bat. I received answers without getting one. The whole thing was very scary at first for many reasons but I left wishing I could bring him home with me as our PCP here. Iām back to bigger city life now and messaged my doctor about what happened and of course havenāt heard back. The people of Spearfish are very lucky to have this kind of care. The check in was a breeze and they let my family...
