Started out a decent place, but is so poorly run now it's become laughable. The staff is nice, but unprofessional and undertrained. The last bunch of movies we've gone to see, we've had to put up with all kinds of stupid stuff...
We had to leave to tell them to turn down the lights after a movie was already playing. Then the lights came up again and I had to go out and tell them again. Full lighting.
In another film, the trailers never started, and 20 minutes after scheduled time my wife went out to tell them nothing was playing at all, not even the trailers, and they had "forgotten" to start the movie... and then they finally started it, skipping the trailers. And they started it without turning the sound on. So someone had to go out and tell them that, too. Another guest.
Another film wasn't even framed properly on screen. They hadn't made it to fill the screen. It was a wide ratio and could have filled everything with the curtains out... And they had the curtains out, but the film was made small and didn't fill the width or height it could have. There was a large amount of space around the top, bottom AND sides.
Another movie we went to see had the opposite problem. They had never recalibrated the lens from the last film, and they were showing a new film with a standard (non-super wide) ratio zoomed in. There was 4 feet or so of the projected material landing above on the ceiling as well as 4 feet below the screen. So we missed a bunch of the image.
We've also had a movie start without previews 10 minutes early. Our friends who arrived ON TIME were confused to sit down and find they'd missed 10 minutes of the movie.
For another movie, I asked for two tickets (standard 2D regular showing), and the employee said "Okay that will be $48.50." It was obviously wrong, so I said (nicely, playfully), "Heh, for two tickets?" She replied, defensively, "I'm just telling you what it says." Like I should just pay it, and like she didn't even notice the problem. When I said again that didn't make sense, she finally pushed a couple buttons and fixed it, but she also would have happily collected $48.50, it seemed like.
THESE THINGS ARE NOT RARE. Stuff like this happens every time we go. It's always something. And we're the type of people who don't complain and never review anything. It's that bad. It's clear they aren't doing and QC screenings or even keeping to schedule, etc.
They aren't even peeking in on showings to enforce rules or etiquette. This is the kind of theater where people can get away with talking loudly the entire time even after being shushed, smoking weed in their seats, etc. No standards from the establishment. No respect for the majority of the audience.
I was overjoyed to finally have a theater in Spring Hill... and we go to the movies a lot... but we'll be driving to Franklin again...
Read moreThe movie theater itself is not bad. But... We went to the matinee on Monday, purchased our tickets, the last showing was still playing so we patiently waited outside the movie up against the wall. (not in front of the doors in case someone wanted to come out and go to the bathroom) just minding our buisness when the ticket stub guy came from their breakroom telling us we can't stand there. We pointed out that we were waiting for the next movie and wasn't in the way. He tells us it was against their policy, then he tells us it was a fire hazard. I pointed out that we were across from a bench. If it was a fire hazzard then why were there benches to sit. He kept on changing his story as to why we couldn't stand there, so my husband told him fine, we would like to speak to the manager. We will move if she tells us we needed to. He said he was going to get the manager. He came back without the manager.. and was walking back to the lobby when he almost bumped into this lady that was standing in the middle of the main aisle. He was having trouble getting around her because she was just standing in the middle.. right in the way. But never said anything to her... so why were we singled out and treated the way he was talking to us is beyond me.
After the movie let out, we stood there for someone to clean it. No one came. This one worker came by and asked why we hadn't went in and was wondering if it was still playing. We told her no its over, but no one had cleaned it yet. So she went in the break room and told them. Still no one came so we went in about 15 min before the movie started. I went to the restroom.. which had a double roll dispenser and both were out. I had to ask the lady next to me for paper.
My husband said after 3 min of us going in someone came in to "clean" the theater. It was discusting the amount of trash in the theater. All he did was go down two aisle and picked up a popcorn bag. I came back in from the restroom and took this picture AFTER the cleaning guy left.
They need to worry more about cleaning the theater and stocking the restrooms rather than wasting time singling out and being rude...
Read more*UPDATE (original post below) I'm not sure what it's happening to this theatre, but 3 of the last 5 times we have had issues with the movie playing. The first issue was going to see Fantastic Beasts. The wrong movie started playing (Assassin's Creed). It took about 10 minutes to get it fixed. Then we went and saw Wonder. The movie started a few minutes into the story. It took about 10 minutes to fix. The third issue was with Black Panther. It was supposed to start at 7:30. At 7:45 the previews hadn't even started. 5 min later the movie started they announced that previews would be skipped to keep us on time. With about 30 minutes left, during an important scene, the movie shut off and the lights came on. Took about 10 min to fix that. Then during another important moment, the video shut off and the sound kept playing. Then it stopped and a Chevy commercial started playing. Then it completely shut down for 5 minutes. Now, to the credit of the theatre, employees were handing out free movie passes as we left Black Panther.
I'm not sure if I am just unlucky or if these problems are common to others as well. We saw Coco and Star Wars with little to no issues. I want to support my local theatre, but I think it might be worth the drive to go elsewhere. I haven't given up yet, but I'm close.
*ORIGINAL POST This theatre was recently changed from a Carmike Cinema to AMC. It is clean and appears to be well-run. Their selection of movies and show times is very good, the theatres are very comfortable, and the staff is very friendly. The prices are pretty standard for movie theatres nowadays, which means it can be expensive to bring a family. If you go during certain hours when tickets are cheaper and avoid concessions then the pricing isn't bad. Tickets can be purchased ahead of time through Fandango or Atom. Getting popcorn or a drink on the opening day of big movie can be a mistake because the lines at the Freestyle Coke machine and at the popcorn stations on busy days are awful. That said, they have been better since...
