My laptop developed a charging connection issue and needed the port changed--I had verified this with a shop in Portland. After coming back to Springfield, My elderly father did me a favor by going to a shop in a town to see how much the repair would cost. Unfortunately, he went to Gizmobyte.
My dad advised Patrick there about the issue and asked how much it would cost to solder in a new port. Patrick took the laptop, tried plugging it in, and after about 2-3 minutes told him that there was a connection issue and a new port needed to be soldered in. He would not give a cost estimate except to say he would need a $75 non-refundable deposit and after opening up the laptop he would determine how much it would cost to replace the port. My dad told him he would need to ask me what I wanted to do. When he went to take the laptop back, Patrick pulled it away and told him he needed to pay a $20 diagnostic fee for looking at the computer.
This individual did not perform ANY diagnostics--he spent 2-3 minutes with the laptop in an empty store with no other customers. We told him exactly what the problem was to start with and he just parroted back what we had told him. The $20 isn't a big deal, but it is absolutely detestable for someone to take advantage of an old man like that and charge him for a service that was not provided. He did not tell my dad that there would be a charge for looking at the computer--if he had been upfront about that, my dad obviously would have just left and gone to another store because we already knew what the problem was and what the solution was, we just needed to know how much Gizmobyte would charge to carry out that solution.
Obviously, I would never give this place another dime and, even if this hadn't happened, there is no way I would hand over my $1,800 laptop and a non-refundable $75 without any kind of quote. That would allow this guy to arbitrarily decide how much to charge me and leave me with absolutely no recourse no matter how much he decided to charge. I am extremely disappointed in Gizmobyte's ...

My experience tonight solidified this for me: This is the only place I could find DDR4 RAM in town. I have a busy schedule and just barely missed their close by a minute or two, but the clerk was nice enough to reopen for a second to help me out! He was kind, professional, and patient.
While it was my fault that I showed up late and normally would never ask anyone to reopen, Gizmobyte showed me that they care about making good experiences and made my day.
Now, I don't have to wait and get to enjoy my new rig tonight!
Edit: I am not advocating asking any business to reopen after close, I would have been just as happy if I had shown up on time or...
Read moreI called them to see if they could help with removing a heathly partition that was taking up a huge amount of my drive that I couldn't get rid of from my hard drive. they said it would cost $95 dollars and I would have to leave my pc there for about 3 days. for that amount of money I could just buy a new drive!!! I looked up videos on how to do it on YouTube and it only took me 5 minutes to fix the problem. they don't care about their customers except the money in your pocket. the guy could of said yeah that's an easy fix and should only take about 10 to15 minutes. I really felt like he tried to screw me over and take advantage of me. look elsewhere or do some online research if you...
