Love this bike trail. I’m a lil bummed out they had to close off and reroute the trailhead but I can get over that. All kinds of wildlife! Prairie dogs, deer, bald eagles nest there, and I’ve seen some beautiful striped garden snakes. No need to worry if you don’t like snakes because they’re off in the wooded areas not the trail.
Avoid at night. I got seriously spooked by a pack of coyotes! The trail is not lit and is basically in the middle of nowhere. Even with a lamp I don’t go there at night.
Police bike along the trail in the day and there’s a manned building for bike repairs and relax on the weekends. Only bathroom is there, a bush, or a port-a-potty at the Chain of Rocks bridge. A rest stop is near the end but currently being renovated. Two water fountains along the way so please stay safe in the summer and bring a large water bottle in the summer. The entire stretch is in full sun. Plenty of riders through the entire day so I feel very safe.
So many great opportunities...
Read moreArea around the Arch was nice though there were random concrete blocks and dumpsters on the trail, branches of trees need to be pruned since they are extending onto the bike path, a bunch of people fishing the river parked trucks and trailers directly on the trail and blocking it. There also appeared to have been a homeless camp, or the remnants of one, right on the trail by LaCledes Landing and just north of the MLK bridge. Also, there was a steel wall blocking the trail which doesn't appear on Google and no signs redirecting you around it. Would be happy to give a better review one day, but this trail needs a fair...
