On 7/22 we went into the store to purchase a mattress. A friend of the owner was assisting with the sale, as he stated the owner was having some health issues but he has helped on and off, over the years. He was friendly and we ended up ordering a MLily king size mattress. We were told at the time, that due to a heatwave where the factory is located, that the shipping was longer than usual, but that we should expect the mattress to ship within 3 to 5 weeks.
We called a few times to check on the status, being told that it was coming, just delays due to the factory hours. On 9/8, I reached out to MLily customer service to check about the delays due to the heat wave. It was at that time that I was told that the mattress that we ordered was actually out of stock and that typically their mattresses ship within two weeks, if not sooner. Due to us ordering a mattress that was out of stock, it pushed the shipping out farther because there were none to ship. I called the store and was told by Cory that my husband, whose name the order was under, should email the store to alert the warehouse to not have the order be shipped. My husband sent an email same day.
The mattress ended up shipping on the 9/12 and I emailed the store letting them know that we had already contacted them about wanting a refund, as we had already purchased a mattress somewhere else that got it to us within two days. We went back and forth about the issuance of a refund. They initially were only going to refund half, but eventually agreed that we cancelled in time and kindly issued the refund (which we are grateful for).
We try to buy local whenever we can. The community is one of the biggest draws that made buying a home here an easy decision. Our biggest issue with Staunton mattress was not the initial customer service, as the gentleman who I believe was Gail (sp?) was very friendly. The issue was miscommunication about mattress availability, delivery, etc. If we had been told upfront that the mattress we ordered was out of stock, then we wouldâve gone with another brand in. They said they got a new manger/owner in August. He says they are cleaning up a lot of previous issues. Due to at one point them stating that only the person on the order could communicate about the order, I would ensure that all parties communicating about the order are listed and that all associates are clear on communication policies.
If you choose to go with this company, be sure to ask lots of questions and understand what you are getting. Do your research. Yes they have had five star reviews, but you have to look at what year those occurred and who was the current owner. I was informed this could take 2-3 weeks. Its now September 13th and I have yet to be refunded. I've exchanged several emails and calls over the last few months, to no avail.
