Valley Outreach serves a good cause, but it is very poorly managed. My son did an Eagle Scout project for them a few years ago and he was treated disgracefully. They had not done any homework before asking him to build raised herb gardens ā they didnāt even know where they could put them, let alone how big they wanted them, what kind of materials they wanted, budget, etc. They expected him ā a teenager ā to survey their property to figure out where their own property lines were (Iām not making this up). They also wanted him to bore down to the water supply and hook up an irrigation system. Hello? He was a teenager leading other teenagers in doing an Eagle Scout project, not an engineer or a contractor! They held him to ridiculously high standards for meaningless things; meanwhile, when it came to major tasks that they were supposed to do (like order dirt), they dropped the ball.
He had to deal with a clueless staff, a bizarre volunteer they assigned to work with him, and incompetent management, all of whom gave him the run-around for months. After he and his scout team finally got the frames constructed despite all this, Valley Outreach allowed the volunteer to CUT OFF parts of his project and damage other parts (when he wasnāt there), before it was even fully complete. In short, it was a nightmare and a terrible way to treat anyone, especially a child. In hindsight, we should have let him quit and get a different project. If you have a son or daughter in Scouts, please donāt let them do a project here!
We met with them afterwards to discuss the issues, but instead of genuinely apologizing to my son and thanking him for his work, the director at the time was rude, insulting, and completely unprofessional. Subsequent attempts at resolution with the current director were met with indifference along with ignorant attempts to re-write history.
Because of this awful experience, we no longer support Valley Outreach. The management is poor and overpaid for the quality of work they do (check out salaries on the Form 990 financial reports on the Guidestar website). There are much better places to donate time, money, food and clothing to help...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreUsed to be kind. Was really soul crushing to go and need help and be treated really badly now. This used to be a kind place when the storm blows in. Iām so lucky to be back on my feet and not need them anymore. I would never go back after the woman joyfully told me I couldnāt go bc I had missed an appointment time by 3 minutes which I had waited three weeks for. She had complete joy and happiness telling me after three weeks of waiting I could not shop there. At least they allow sadists to get joy at the expense of the hungry I guess. At least that staff person was joyful at her sadism. Allowing staff to profile and bully clients they donāt like is what you should expect now. The people who can use valley outreach now are those who are aggressive and itās not safe for anyone who is a gentle sensitive soul.. itās not for needy people .. itās for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThere amazing and very helpful. I appreciate all of them including Matt he was helpful with the resources and was very understanding and Louie was helpful being it was my family and our first time going there he did a great job showing us what items and how many items we can pick out while going into the food part. If anyoneās going through something or need help they go above and beyond to help and they also have clothing for those in need and there not judge mental or anything. I will be returning and referring them. There kind, courteous and very understanding. They deserve more then five āļø āS if I could give 100 I would :) Keep up the good work guyās and galās :) Thank You again for your service and kind help. May god...
