I wish I could give THIS specific Home Depot store location in Sugar Land, TX, HIGHER MARKS than only "five Stars".
ESPECIALLY for ONE of their AWESOME staff team members...Cathryn (she goes by "Katy"), and works in this stores "Millworks" department!
Because of her, I have been posting the following comment on the "Nextdoor" website, whenever I see the all to frequent posts from others, about individual handyman contractors that have done them wrong, with either sub-par work, or ripping them off.
My post says it all about Katy...
"I can impart to you, concerning any work you might want, or need, done on your house, so as to avoid the fly-by-night handyman or home service contractor scammers is to...
Check with Home Depot for needed contractor jobs!!!
I asked for estimates on NextDoor for the installation of a new garage door opener that I would buy brand new and supply. All we needed was one old unit swapped out for a brand new one. We got pure labor quotes from $175 to $285.
Before decided on a specific replying contractor that quoted me, I went to go buy the new garage door opener. While doing so at the local to me Sugar Land Home Depot on Hwy. 59 at Williams Trace, I was assisted by one of their team members named Katy, who covers the aisle 14 area.
With expert knowledge she advised and helped me decide which opener best fit our needs, but then asked me if we would like to get one of their Home Depot approved installers to do the job...for a set fix price of only $138.00!
Going through Home Depot, to locate and hire an installer, or ANY OTHER home repair or service contractor, is great!!! Home Deport KNOWS the fair, reasonable, average rates to do nearly any job you need done on your house! This prevents independent, but unscrupulous contractors from visiting your house, scoping out your neighborhood area, you yourself, your house, and/or your cars, then estimating in their minds, after making their own personal assumption of how financially well-off you might be, then using that assumed information to access, "How high of a price can I get this home owner to pay...over the reasonable amount that I know this job should cost?"
Additionally, each of these local independent contractors has already been vetted and approved by Home Depot, and are thus backed up by Home Depot.
If the contractor does a poor job, Home Depot will make things right for you the home owner. You also never have to worry about a fly-by-night contractor taking an advance of money from you and then you never see or hear back from them ever again!
If something bad like that were to occur, Home Depot will be liable, and thus, make things right for you...be it a poorly done job, or ripping you off.
Go look into Home Depot to ask if they have pre-approved, not to mention experienced, contractors that specify in doing whatever work you need done!!!
Again, ask for Katy in their "Millworks" department. She is usually found, on the days she is working, sitting at the help desk near the end of aisle 14, in the middle of the store, at the Sugar Land Home Depot store location.
She is AWESOME!!!
No, I am not related to her in any way, I am only promoting her by name because she helped us so much that she deserves the kudos!

Read moreI just recently moved and I needed to fill my housr with appliances. My first item was a washer/dryer. we ordered with ease but when it came to the delivery it was a mess. To my understanding (and with previous home deliveries ) we were supposed to get a phone call with a delivery window for the next day. Since I have not received a phone call I am going about the busy life of a mother of 3 . I get a phone call around 8:45am from the delivery guy that he would be at my house in 5 minutes..... wait what? I told him that I was out and I wouldn't be home for another 45 minutes... He then said "thats too long , ill have someone call you.... click". Yes, he just hung up. So I try calling home depot to tell them what this idiot just said and did and I couldn't get through to anyone. So I just drove to the site and asked for some clarification on what just happened and to see when they would be delivering my washer/dryer. I spoke to a very helpful woman named Dallas and she got them to say they would make our delivery their last.
Unfortunately they did not and this was on a friday I believe. We were then told our next delivery day would be Tuesday, but it was actually Wednesday. So Wednesday comes around and they just show up. No 15 minute courtesy call , they just show up.
They seem nice but I can tell they are going to piss me off. If anyone who owns a dryer you know that the hose comes with 2 clamps and one connects to the hose on the piece that goes to the wall and the other connects to the other end that goes onto the dryer. Its not very hard to put 2 and 2 together. The guy tells me that he doesn't need to put the 2nd one on... I bypass what he says and told him I think you should put it on. I can tell they just wanted to rush through it and leave. These guys werent very small so I told them I have no problem squeezing in between the sets and installing the other clamp, so I did. But before I do this I place my cell phone on the washer and when I come up and start looking for my phone one of them pulls it out of his pocket and gives me this bullsh*t story about him thinking it was his. Really??? You expect me to think that a man in your line of work doesn't have a case on your phone? And you thought that my phone that has no case and is gold is yours? I hate to jump to conclusions but this "mistake" happened after I seen their mannerism. After I noticed they had no courtesy, were trying to rush the job and after I noticed dirty handprints all over my walls going up the stairs (where the set needed to be installed ). I needed to buy more appliances but in no way will I EVER order another item from Home Depot. I shop at Home Depot often and Ive never had any issues but until they clean up their delivery company , Ill never order...
Read moreNEVER AGAIN!!! As a former Best Buy employee; I am disgusted with how poor the customer experience was today as well as their desire to retain customers.
For the past 10 years since my employment, I have consistently preeched and praised Best Buy for their customer service and more importantly; their Geek Squad Protection, however; after my experience today.... I will gladly spend more money with another company knowing that I am not supporting a sub-par experience.
After spending several thousand dollars for appliances and NOT getting the protection plan that I had asked for, I returmed to add it to my order. I was excited by an open-box offer for an 85" TV and decided to add that to my order as well. In order to do that I was required to cancel my previous order and repurchased it again 5min later. I was surprised to find out that my appliances would now take an additional week to arrive but at least I would have the TV.
*keep in mind; they listed all display tvs as "open-box" only 1-5 days prior to my 2nd visit and 20 minutes after making my purchase, I received a call saying that my TV could not be purchased as it was damaged and should not have been sold. At that point I asked the Geek Squad rep to assist me in finding a different TV that was comparable, but I was told "I do not work in that department and there is nothing that we can do. I'm sorry but we will refund your money and you will have to find another TV"
Today, I returned to the store and spoke with several managers about my experience with the hope that they would make it right while trying to win back the business of a long-term, loyal customer and I was sadly disappointed. After almost an hr of standing around and waiting; not only did they NOT find a comparable replacement but they would not price match!!
I told them that Amazon was $3 less on the item but $500 less on the protection plan and while I was very disappointed with my experience; I gave them 1 last opportunity to win my business but when I asked them if they could match the price, they refused to reduce the price by $500 so I turned and walked away.
Best Buy USED to do whatever they could to keep customers, however; today they are too focused on the bottom line and have just lost the business of not only me; but my entire network of family/friends and I will be sure to share my awful experience whenever possible in order to prevent those that I love from going through such a miserable and...
