We just left the club after our first real discrimination in El Paso, or just a poorly run organization. Not sure which really… So my father, who’s 87 likes to gamble and really enjoys horse racing. Luckily Sunland Park racetrack is a mile from my house, so we’ve been going each Sunday for the previous two months. Today we decided to invite my wife and her mom (The Mexican's). Gramma Leon has bad knees so we dropped her in front up by the casino so she could take a look at that, maybe something she’d enjoy later. They were going to meet us in the area my father and I had been going to for a few months that servers food and drinks while you gamble on the horses. We enjoyed iced teas and cake but my wife likes their margaritas. Anyway that was the plan. My father and I walked in, paid for our program and got a nice table upfront to see the races. My dad placed our bets then my wife calls telling me they won’t let her in because she’s not a member. She’s got to pay some cover charge to get in, be on a list or have a wristband. All of that is news to me. Mind you, we’ve been here around ten times so far this year and the only time anything like that happened was during the derby, which I understand. But now I’m a little agitated thinking to myself that since my wife and her mom don’t speak English very well, look almost Aztec, maybe this is a classic case of discrimination. Then I ask the manager if they have different rules for different doors, where one lets you in without any questions or extra fees ( two white dudes walking in) and the other asks for an entrance fee to get in (two Mexican ladies). He wanted to argue and bicker about it. I am a firm believer in not spending money with organizations that treat people depending on how they look (discrimination) so I said let’s just leave. What a horrible experience for all, glad my kids weren’t there to see. FYI Our $120 paid out 108, so...
Read moreI would give this place less than one star if that was possible if possible it would be a negative 100 Stars my wife was inside I was outside with the dog security told me I could no longer be on the property waiting for my wife to come out they also said that I could not have the dog on the property and I would have to leave right away I started calling my wife due to the amount of noise inside the casino she couldn't hear me I called the casinos main desk and it's for men that I needed to get in touch with her it was an emergency and they said that their policy was not to disturb the players on the floor and they could not help me I asked them what if I was having a heart attack and needed to get in touch with her their response was they were still not going to be able to disturb her by paging her over the loudspeakers or having somebody locator therefore I would not recommend this place to anyone it is the worst casino experience we have ever had and should you have an actual emergency they will not help you you can sit there and die but they will not help you the locate the party that is inside that you need to get in touch with right away. There was nothing posted that I saw on the property regarding no pets allowed oh, also there was nothing posted regarding their policy about not informing someone that their loved one had an emergency and they needed to get out to the parking lot immediately. For a casino to care more about making money and not disturbing the gamblers then to care about someone possibly having a heart attack or having some kind of emergency in the parking lot that they came with that is a horrible place to be. Gamblers beware. Find...
Read moreSo if you are new to New Mexico gambling it can be off putting. People are allowed to smoke in the casino, but not drink. Mind blowing. The casino has tons of slots. No video poker, no table games. The video texas Hold’em, was just about impossible to win on, similar to bj with a dealer vs everyone else, I would recommend against playing this game. The video blackjack was streaked, but enjoyed it. My wife hit several jackpots on slots. They also draw names one you qualify by earning a simple amount of points. My name was drawn, my partner & I played plinko & hit the 1000 slot, spliting a pot of $574 each, so that was nice. We played here about 3 hours, left $800 ahead between the 2 of us, so pretty good night. I was looking forward to the horse racing but will have to catch another time. If you are looking for place to stay a night or 2 this could be fun. Odd the bar was closed when we went to have a drink, & it was only 9 pm. Also the restaurant was closed by 9 pm. So they have room for improvement. Staff was friendly. Down side is blazing 7’s jackpot was hit, & did not pay, we had two 7 or diamonds, one 7 of hearts. Should have paid the minor $900, plus another $400, so that ticked us off. We waited to long to find attendant, & he could not go back far enough to retrieve the hand, so...
