Hotel OK / Bar Beyond Bad / Read notes
HOTEL breakdown close to casino clean rooms I was able to check in early, given I had to wait about 10 mins after getting to the hotel no mini fridge or microwave (unless you request it prior and they only have limited numbers available) bar is billed separately from food
BAR breakdown no wait (read: no one is there because it is that bad) ordered food at the bar because there was no wait, and had to pay separately with cash. The food was delivered in a paper bag and box, had to ask the bartender for a plate for my food. If I wanted food in a bag, I would have went to a fast food restaurant and spent less for the same quality food. bartender would not talk to me - I literally had to ask for every thing (plate, drinks, food, check, his manager) did I mention that the bar is terrible - I sat for over 45 minutes with trash in front of me and I was never asked if I wanted another drink or if I was done eating so he could remove the trash and I could pay on multiple occasions while sitting at the bar, I witnessed the bar tender send guests to the casino for food when the hotel serves food, come to find out the bartender works for the casino and not the hotel, beware of that if you are just passing through and not a local
///// Recommendations to ownership/management- You need to get the bar staff on your side, or you need to get the proper license/permit to serve alcohol. On 3 occasions while I was sitting at the bar, the bartender sent customers next door for food when the hotel serves food. I also tried to keep 2 customers at the hotel by stating that food is served here, and the bartender still kept pushing them to the casino or Twin Peaks. If I was an owner, I would be extremely upset about the bottom line. As a supervisor, I would be upset customers were being sent off premises as an inconvenience to them.
As a potential investor in Choice Hotels International stock (CHH) my experience has been significantly worse than Hilton or Marriott. After this experience, I will continue to book rooms and invest in Marriott or Hilton locations. The price is slightly higher, but the room quality along with customer service is...
Read moreThe Director of Sales, Gladys Gonzales, was extremely helpful, professional, and VERY personable! We had booked a room block for our wedding at another hotel (The Country Inn & Suites) and ended up switching over to The Hotel at Sunland Park two months before the wedding after having some communications issues and lousy customer service at the other hotel. Switching hotels was one of the best decisions we made in the wedding planning process!! Gladys was always there when I had questions or requests (or wedding-related freak outs) and went above and beyond each time. (Did I mention that I initially called her in a panic to ask if they could accommodate our room block so close to our wedding date and she had our proposal ready in less than an hour??) The hotel is brand new and the rooms are beautiful, particularly the suites. (Even my photographer commented on how much nicer it was to photograph at this hotel...) The racetrack view rooms have an incredible view, and I just wish we had more time to actually enjoy the room. All suites look out to the Franklin mountains and racetrack lake. In the midst of all of the chaos, it was a pleasure waking up and getting ready for my wedding with a stunning view in the picturesque window. The location was also VERY convenient and everyone appreciated the fast shuttle service!!
Thank you Gladys, Sumer, and the rest of the staff for accommodating our crazy group and providing some of the best customer service that I've experienced in a LONG time--from our phone convos, booking process, and even assisting me with my dress, bouquet, etc. when it was time to ride to the venue. You helped make our special day just wonderful! I will definitely continue to refer The Hotel to everyone staying in the area and/or planning...
Read moreThe hotel has been there for about 6 years. Next to Sunland Casino and race track. Our first room was next to the elevator & maid room. NOISY!!! Guest come in and out all night. I'm not sure if they go to the casino or not, but lots of activity. This was during weekday, and no horse races were running. Beds are ok, but the beds sit high for average person. Almost have to jump up. Cleanlines was good in the first room. Moved to second room due to excessive noise. The second room on the same floor was not as bad as ti the noise, but it was stinky. As if previous guess walked around without shooes and had stinky feet. I had a can of Lysol, so I used it. Front desk personnel were not happy about moving us, so I just didn't want to deal with any more moving. On the morning of the first night in the second room, the maid came into the room without knocking or announcing herself. I was still in bed. It was around 8 am or a little after. I also heard a customer talking with the maid just outside my room, the man was acusing her of stealing his wallet and ring. Don't know who he was but he seemed upset. It made me think since she opened my door without a knock and announcing herself. I took my valuables and left them in my car the rest of my time there just in case. Hotel seems really nice but I'm not staying there again. To noisy, big generator close to south side of the building, guess seem to be people who like going to the casino and the one room was to stinky. For a few more $ I can stay at...
