I’ve been a member of OrangeTheory Fitness on and off since 2016, and over the years, I’ve had the chance to try different OTF studios in Palo Alto, Cupertino, and now Sunnyvale. I can honestly say that the Downtown Sunnyvale location is my favorite by far, and I’d love to share why.
The workouts here are truly fantastic. Every day feels like a new challenge, and I love how no two sessions are ever the same. Whether I’m rowing, running on the treadmill, or working with weights, I’m always engaged. It’s not just about one piece of equipment or one type of workout—it’s a full-body experience that keeps things fresh. The heart rate monitor is a great tool for tracking my intensity, but there’s absolutely no pressure to compare myself to others. It’s all about personal progress, and that’s one of the reasons I keep coming back.
The coaches at OTF Sunnyvale are amazing. They’re not only knowledgeable but also so passionate and encouraging. They know how to keep the energy high and the vibe positive, which makes each class enjoyable—even when it’s tough! The music is always on point, and the signature orange lighting gives the studio such a unique, motivating atmosphere. It really does feel like the perfect place to push myself and work toward my fitness goals.
OTF has had such a positive impact on me, both physically and mentally. I’ve definitely noticed improvements in my strength and endurance, but what stands out even more is how the workouts have boosted my mental well-being. I never feel pressured to do more than I can, and that’s made all the difference in my journey. It’s a space where I feel supported, no matter my fitness level, and that’s something I truly value.
What really makes the Sunnyvale studio special, though, is the incredible team. The front desk staff is always so friendly, helpful, and accommodating. Whether I need to reschedule a class or have a quick question, they handle everything with such warmth and professionalism. I’ve had to adjust my schedule last-minute a few times, and every time, the staff has been so understanding and quick to find a solution. They manage to balance enforcing policies with genuine empathy and always offer thoughtful solutions. I never feel like I'm inconveniencing anyone, and I appreciate the personal touch they bring to every interaction. It’s clear that they truly care about my experience and fitness journey.
It’s also the little things that make such a difference. The team remembers my name and preferences, which makes me feel like I’m more than just another member.
I’d like to give a special shoutout to Hailey, Mia, Julie, Kendall, and Andrea—your smiles and energy make every visit a pleasure. You all make me feel like part of the OTF family, and I can’t thank you enough for that. I also want to acknowledge Luke and Libby, who were always so kind and went out of their way to make my time at OTF memorable.
If you’re looking for a challenging, supportive, and fun fitness experience, the OrangeTheory Fitness Downtown Sunnyvale studio is the place to be. The combination of a fantastic workout and a caring, dedicated staff is what keeps me coming back. I’m grateful for everything you all do to make each visit a positive, rewarding experience.
Thank you for making my fitness journey...
Read moreI had been to OrangeTheory for six months before quitting. Good points: Very good for HIIT training and cardio. Their setup of metrics (red zone, orange zone, splat points etc.) might incentivize one to push in more and more. OTF policies enforce discipline in you by charging you $22 for missing/canceling a class within 8 hours of class time or reaching the class late ( 5 mins). Although this can be super annoying at times when cancellations are unavoidable.
Reasons to quit: This place isn't suitable for strength training. You hardly get to spend 15-20 mins for floor exercises, which is of-course not adequate for strength training. The classes are over-crowded (especially the 3G ones, where you have 12 * 3 = 36 folks in one class) and coaches literally have to constantly blabber the instructions for the three groups which can be overwhelming for both the coach and the trainees. They schedule too many floor exercises in a very small time window, and by the time I make myself familiar with the exercise pattern, the time is already up. It's impossible for coaches to spend any time to observe and correct your form while doing the floor exercises. I know at least a couple of friends who got knee injuries over time due to wrong postures for squats and deadlift exercises and had to quit OTF for this. I was lucky to avoid injury as I had some experience with the forms of these exercises. All coaches haven't been great in my experience, and the classes with good coaches book out in no time. Last but not least it's fckin' expensive. $200 per month is way too high. And $22 for missing/cancelling a class is a bit too unreasonable.
Long story short, OTF is good to develop the habit of hitting the gym regularly. Once it gets into your routine, you have all reasons to quit and join a...
Read moreWhile I understand that OrangeTheory has a 5 minute grace period policy for members showing up to a scheduled class, and I respect this studio’s strictness in members adhering to this policy, I have to say that there are better ways to communicate with members when that 5 minutes is coming up. In my first visit to this studio, I arrived 3 minutes late, checked in within the 5 minute grace period, and went to the restroom before entering the workout room. I was immediately met with a staff member pounding on the bathroom door and yelling through it that I had to be present inside of the workout room as the 5 minutes was coming up. I finished up in the restroom as quickly as I could, as the staff member continued to pound and yell through the restroom door. Upon exiting, this staff member continued to disrespectfully yell at me that members need to be present inside the workout room by the 5 minutes after scheduled start time. Her communication was not effective as her choice of words and her manners made this seem like it were a life-or-death matter. I entered the studio and got on the treadmill at 5 minutes and 43 seconds (there is a timer on the board from when class starts). I admire that this staff member was trying to get me in on time to stay compliant with policy, I’d like to say her approach could have been at least somewhat customer service oriented and cordial (we are adults, not children). I had a great workout with Coach Kelsey and I am glad at least someone mature was there to lead the class and make this visit more pleasant. I would not return as I would not want to risk interacting with the staff member who was...
