This review is two years late, but here it is. In August 2020, I went on holiday to the Myrtle Beach area and while in Surfside Beach, I chanced upon this small computer store. In my city, it's difficult to get computer parts and during this time there was a shortage across the entire nation on all things computers. I had been searching for a GTX 1080 and simply could not find one. I kept trying Ebay, but always got outbid. And so, I randomly checked this place out. Everyone in there was helpful and was not daunted by the task of searching down a GTX 1080. They managed to find at least three online and asked me which one I wanted. I chose the new one. Then, they asked me if I wanted it directly shipped to my place or their place first and then later after confirming it works have it shipped to my place. I chose to let them receive it first. I paid way too much for the thing, but the reality was during the shortage, everyone was paying too much.....even the merchants, themselves. I doubt that Everything Computers made money off of the GPU and I seriously believe they even lost money on it. The fact is, they were able to locate an extremely difficult to get part that was completely unavailable where I live and they were able to get it to me despite the fact that I live out of state from them. They were friendly, extremely competent, and had in stock Dell Optiplex computers which at the time were a bit elusive themselves. I'm not sure how they managed, but they were better stocked than Micro Center near Atlanta. If you are looking for knowledgeable staff who can hunt down hard to get new and used gear, they've got you covered. As far as my GTX 1080 is concerned, it's going into it's third computer despite the fact that I've upgraded to a RTX 3090. Compared to the RTX 3090, the GTX 1080 is still pretty beefy if you're not using a 4K monitor and you don't care about ray tracing. The GTX has the big advantage of less power draw and so you can get by with a lower wattage power supply. I'm not selling my GTX 1080 any time soon and if I'm in Surfside Beach again, I'm going back to Everything Computers. PS, if you live far away from them, give them a call anyway, they may still be able to help you! There's currently a used computer case shortage where I live and they tried to help me. However, shipping would have costed more than the case would have. If I roll back down there, I think I'll pick up a few cases...
Read moreOn the brink of a new era, plagued with the unknown and still tainted by the poison of the fake news, I walked into the doors of Everything Computers. Even at the end of the information era, Google searches left me scratching my head at the closing of each tab I opened.
The kind and informative employees jotted down my desires for a not so normal custom-built machine, that neither of us knew how to really assess the situation. The owner heard the news of my inquiry and personally reached out to me. Leary of spending well over my budget on a device that was as elusive as the speakers of Esperanto. I regrettably held off from giving the work order. A few months doddle by, so I call every computer store from North Charleston to North Myrtle, looking for a comparison. Even someone with seemingly more knowledge than the Everything Computers team displayed. With expectations, you can only expect disappointments, and that's what I found. Not one establishment that I called, that answered, could, or even would, entertain my questions or presented me with a plan.
Weighing the risk of my endeavor to the short amount of time left the average crypto miners to have to mine Ethereum, I contacted the team once more. Aware of the fact this crew had the knowledge in both software, and hardware design, we laid out the blueprints for our very own "Model T" concept. Within a week's time, a call from the owner, Mike, lit my phone. Great news spilled from the tiny speaker in my ear, not only was our first crypto mining rig operational but was showing profitability.
Anxious to experiment with what I learned from YouTube University, I tried rushing Mike and his techno wizards to finish. He allowed me to take my investment but warned me he hadn't had ample time to analyze the device's conditions because we as a community were celebrating Freedom 234th birthday!
The trust built by the company, in such a short time led me to give the gang the requested extra time. Finally, pick-up day came and the employees met me with satisfied salutations and instructed me on all the bells and whistles this machine had to offer. 5 stars in my book and can't wait to get my next one...
Read moreI recently took my iPad to Everything Computers for a screen replacement. The store quoted me a price that was $50.00 more than a competitor at Market Common, but it could be picked up next day. When I went in the next day to pick it up I was told that the repair was still in process. When I drilled down, they offered to give it back to me and admitted the repair was never started. They told me the part was in stock and I could pick it up the following day, I agreed. That evening I got a call and was told the part they had was broke and the new part could be there by the end of the week. I agreed but should have known better. I picked it up at the end of the week and took it home. I immediately found that the fingerprint reader was broke, and not recognized in the fingerprint setup area. I called and they told me to bring it down and they would "take a look at it" I did and found out later that they replaced the Button with an aftermarket piece that does not work with the apple motherboard, and they knew this.. So when I finally picked it up I realized they were not straight with me and most of what they said was just Kabuki theater. They told me I could still use it as if they expected gratitude from me after paying 1/2 the price of a new iPad, that they didn't break it completely. So, disappointed didn't fully cover how I felt. I got the run around, had delays, was not told that they broke something that was not broke when I went in. I complained that they cost $50.00 more than a competitor and I wanted a refunded. It took me over ten minutes making my case to get my refund. There was another customer there who heard the whole thing, I was surprised she didn't run out the door, which is what I should have done after the first broken promise and excuse. They seemed like nice enough individuals, but I would NEVER take an apple device there and warn others to...
