Please see Daniel Pineau's excellent review below. I'll clear a few things up for the many imbeciles that just see "park" on Google Maps and lack context and local knowledge. Florida has no state income tax. Florida's state govt relies tourism tax dollars to fund everything. Florida's elected officials all too often care little about public health, let alone history and archaeology---hence sites deserving of being a major archaeological park, such as this site, end up, at best, with interpretive signs and plaques. If you would like to see this change, elect politicians that care.

It's so cool that Hernando De Soto was encamped and survived th winter with the help of supplies and native people. They found artifacts her that proved the Conquistadors were, and the Governors home is here. I would check it out!

Where was the park, I drove in, parked, walk to the end of the gravel, it's another street. I did not see the statue or the park.
