Was very impressed with As You Wish. A birthday party for a friend's 5 year old was my first experience this weekend at this place and as an art kid (okay, I'm an adult, but I'll always be an "art kid") I was happy. You pick a piece you want from the shelf of premade pottery. They all have price tags on the bottom which you give to one of the kind workers.
They set you up with brushes and water. There are small cubbies with an array of "undercoat" colors. The paints come out chalky and pale so there is a sample on each cubby to help you choose between the approximately 60-80 colors. My 6 y.o. and 2 y.o. girls each chose a piece and had so much fun painting. My 6 y.o. picked a unicorn keepsake box and my 2 y.o. painted a small pumpkin plate. All the Halloween pieces are out so I couldn't resist making something myself.
After you're done, they'll fire your piece to dry it, you pay, and come back another day to pick up. We we're part of a party so All the pieces were marked on the bottom and can be picked up together by the one who arranged the event. All the plates and cups are food safe. I chose to make a pumpkin mug to paint and paid for it separately to get my art fix. With the approximately $10 mug plus the approximately $15 "paint time", you're asked if you'd like to tip the employees who were constantly walking around, cleaning up messes, putting away paint, and in our case tending to our party needs. With all that, subtract the tip and $1 donation to Leukemia Research, my mug cost me a wonderful 1.5 hours and approximately $26. Picture attached of it painted as I have yet to see the finished product. Pictures of my girls painting their first pieces ever.
10/10 highly recommend. Would love to find a friend to babysit to make this into...
Read moreThis experience was great! I stayed there painting&talking to just painting but myself for about 4hrs‼️👀 The establishment actually let me stay until closing, basically! They run thru an info wheel and are very open & willing to assist, but leave you be with your creativeness. There's a variety of pieces to choose from ranging in price. Mine, for instance, were 4 square pieces that were $6.50 each. I decided to use them as coasters (which they had an actual set of coasters, however it would've brought my total to slightly higher than what I wanted to pay). To my understanding, there's what I call a "sit down fee" of $10. So, you start from there and add on the price of the piece you choose. The atmosphere is fun & light, and there's plenty of examples up and around the store if you need help with your creativeness for your masterpiece. After painting, you'll have to wait a few days (like 3 business days I believe) for them to "fire" your piece. So, you would have to go back & pick it up, but they'll hold it for 30dys. I went to the Tempe,AZ location due to the birthday girl choosing that location; however, I found out afterwards that there were other locations that were close to me that I could attend as well! The photos are of my draft and then the final outcome🥰. 😊...
Read moreThis was just a fantastic experience - great for ANY craft lover and kids/teens and good quality time for whomever you go with. It is good for beginners as well!
Reserve a table on their website and there's really no time limit of how long you have the table for EXCEPT be mindful of their closing hours. There is bathroom on site as well
YOU CANNOT TAKE PIECES HOME THE SAME DAY: the pieces need to bake in the kiln after you paint and turnaround time is about 5 days. You can do ACRYLIC painting that you can take home that day BUT (1) it can stain your clothes and (2) it is nonedible (so you can't use it on the plates and mugs)
We decided to try them as a quality time activity for me, my husband and his sister and we were all pleasantly surprised. We booked the activity for 3:30pm and finished up just in time to walk over to dinner about 2 hours later. My husband and SIL were done wayy before me but as the crafter, I got a little artsy with mine
