First time visiting this Truck Yard location on a couples night out - two couples, after work.
We walked around to take it all in.
Our first stop were for drinks at the bar on the first floor. Plenty of beer options and enough wine and booze options to keep most drinkers happy.
We then made our way up to the second floor to walk through the Barney Smith Toilet Seat Museum. Absolutely worth it! Just about all decades and all interests represented: on toilet seats. A pleasant and fun surprise. Talk about a great way to start the evening and conversations!
Barney got creative with the toilet seats. What a great setting for taking social media pics and videos for Instagram, Tik Tok and Snapchat.
Each seat carries a story and a near instant conversation. Good for young and old to visit.
Truck Yard and the Barney Smith Toile Seat Museum ought to be on the short list of places to take out-of-town visitors and/or, let's hang here while we put our game plan together. May end up staying here the whole night. Can make this the first or the last stop. . .regardless: you'd have to work hard not to have fun here any night of the week!
Coming back here on a Thurs. - Sat., and definitely Spring/Summer. Looks like it is...
Read moreMy wife, mother-in-law and I were in San Antonio taking my mother-in-law to the airport. Her flight was delayed and it was raining so we were on the hunt for fun indoor activities in San Antonio. After many failed searches we came across the Toilet Seat Museum. We all laughed thinking this is a bit strange, but gave the place a call anyway, since it's by appointment only. When the gentleman answered the phone our first thought was that this was a scam (we hadn't thoroughly checked the legitimacy of the museum). The gentleman on the phone was elderly and explained that if we were coming soon he would prop the door open and then once inside he would shut it behind us due to the rain harming his toilet seats. We thought this sounded pretty out there and possibly the good start to a bad horror film. However, once we arrived and met Barney and stepped into his toilet seat museum we quickly discovered the amazing timeline of his life and US history all perfectly depicted on hundreds of toilet seats. Barney has a wonderful life story and great artifacts to prove it. Please visit his unique toilet seat museum.
Thanks for a...
Read moreThis was super interesting! I could've spent hours in there talking to Barney. I called him and he'd already closed down for the day, but told me to go ahead and come on and he'd open up for my gf and I. He had 1,192 toilet seats in there and he knows every detail of every item in there ( who donated the items, where everything was and what each one says). He pulled out some vhs tapes and showed me the times he's been on tv. I spent maybe an hour in there and could've stayed longer, but it was getting late. Seriously, he was one of the sweetest and interesting people I've ever encountered. I kinda just want to be best friends and decorate toilet seats with him. Thank you, Barney. It was a true pleasure meeting you tonight. I hope to make it back to San Antonio soon to visit again. As we were leaving here told us not to wait too long to come back because he is 94 and you never know when his time will come (haha). Check it out, it's free, just throw a couple bucks in his donation bucket (if you can) and he's happy...
