Every negative review I've read here sounds like entitlement and a lack of patience–I'm guilty of that too at times–but here's the perspective of a local since 2009. I'm here twice a week.
I appreciate this location. It was renovated 6-7 years ago, and it's in decent shape considering the amount of business they receive. IMO we're lucky its remained open since a competitor opened ~10 years ago. Sure, the seats don't look pretty because the coating has worn, but they're not ripped or torn and I've never had one not recline for me. It's not like they're in disrepair or inoperable.
The A/C works, guaranteed. I've been shown the projector room at another theater, so I know that the projection and computer network (racks) equipment will overheat without working A/C. Theaters have tall ceilings, it takes a while to cool them, so I consider that when choosing the first showtime of the day.
I've never had a problem with concessions or drinks, except my own lack of patience. Truth is there may be 4 people in line ahead of you if you show up right at movie time. I'd say they staff the front adequately. When it's truly busy, they have 3+ people up there. Bar service can be slower, but given these are entry level jobs and younger people usually apply, they're not going to be serving alcohol–legal age is 18 to serve (21 to consume)–ive never known an establishment following that though. You may have to wait if its slower. The bartender also prepares hot food orders form concessions. Arriving earlier will ensure a positive experience.
The main bathrooms (upstairs) have always been in working order that I've experienced. it's a little bit of a walk, but they're nice, big, and clean without ever having a line. One review implied that all water was unavailable here for a week or so, well that's usually a shopping center issue and not their tenants. I'm sure it was fixed as soon as possible, considering it's needed to make money.
Also, I think that people are confused by the layout here until you realize the downstairs space is needed for theater seating, upstairs is usually wasted unused space at theaters. It was smart for the location to utilize it. There are two more convenient ones downstairs intended for ADA, unfortunately too many people take advantage of them rather than minding their manners and leaving them for those who truly need them rather than just not wanting to walk. (Again, I'm guilty here too, but let's call it as it is.)
There's always room for improvement, but when I've brought legitimate concerns, like customer safety, they've addressed it.
My advice for a positive experience here is to align your expectations for a comfortable theater renovated just a few years before the pandemic, and show up 30min before showtime. If the missing coating on the headrests of the seats bothers you, you can always bring a hoodie or something to throw over it, the rest of the seats are like new. Personally, I bring travel Clorox wipes just because it's a habit that...
Read moreThis Theatre is nice. However, they typically have poor choice in regards to which movies are shown on particular screens. This happens often, but I'll give an example.
Last night (December 22nd) I went to the opening of Matrix Resurrections. It was only showing on a small screen in one of their smaller theaters (78 person Maximum occupancy.) This place has 4 small theaters with that same occupancy or smaller, and 6 Large screens and theaters with occupancy of 150.
Last night, opening night, Sing 2 was on the Big screen with only a few people occupying it, while Matrix was Jam Packed. I never quite understand their reasoning for choices. It's like they don't watch movies themselves and don't understand that people go to see a movie like The Matrix to see it on a large screen.
It makes me wonder if their Algorithms schedule the movies. Unfortunately, Algorithms aren't human and know nothing of quality.
No Wonder why I don't go to this theatre anymore. I drive to Simi Valley to see it at the Regal there. a Place where they seem to plan the movies with a Human touch.
I've tried to speak with many of their Employees including managers and they just shrug and say they have no control.
This is our future. Algorithms control everything so that the humans can have no...
Read moreThis is by far my favorite theater in the Thousand Oaks area. 5 start for a couple reasons The recliner seats in every theater with a snack tray. Recliner seats are a must for every theater now. Other theaters in the area charge more for non-recliner seats... The ticket prices are the most reasonable for the area. Best value theater showing the latest movies. The snacks seem to be fairly priced as well. They don't try to be a restaurant and sell food. It's a move. We just want movie snacks. The showtimes are the best. They have the most showings of popular movies. Other local theaters have odd showtimes or not enough showtimes for popular movies.
I feel like this theater more than any other in the Thousand Oaks area is in tune with what the movie going crowd wants, or maybe just what I want. Recliner seats, check,. Fair prices, check. Good showtime options, check.
The one area I could see improvement is in showtimes though. No one in the Thousand Oaks area offers showtimes around 8pm. They seem to have 7pm and 9:30pm+ showtimes. 8pm is the sweet spot for me to go get dinner with my wife then see movies and be home by about 10 or 11...
