DO NOT SHOP HERE! While I had heard good things from a friend of mine about this shop, my experience was awful. The back story: My buddy and I were brand new to bow hunting. We went here because of a trusted referral. I had a used bow that I wanted them to check, out to help me determine if I wanted to try a used bow, before dropping serious coin on a new bow.
They basically told me that it was a frankenbow and then paid me no further attention. My buddy said he wanted to buy a new bow and got all the attention he could handle. Once he said he wanted to spend money, he received phenomenal customer service. When I asked about buying a release to use with the frankenbow, the staff walked me to the rack of releases and simply walked away. They didn't ask me any questions or attempt to educate me about the various options. They sure treated my buddy like a king though. They even gave him a "Hoyt Hat" when he bought his bow. Sure felt like he was getting royal treatment.
My buddy walked out after 2 hours of trying different bows with a 2015 Hoyt Charger package deal. He spent $650.00 for the package but added a stabilizer for about $50.00 more bucks. So total price was $700.00 out the door. We thought this was a good deal. I decided after trying the frankenbow a few times and then firing my buddy's new Hoyt Charger, I wanted to get a new bow. I did some research and learned of another local shop in Milwaukie. BROKEN ARROW
I did not feel like spending money at a shop who basically treated me like a second class citizen when I wasn't going to buy a new bow the first time walking in the store. We tried another local shop. BROKEN ARROW. I was greeted instantly with a helpful staff who spend 30 minutes just educating me about the sport with no pressure to sell. When I broke the news, I wanted to buy a new bow and specifically a Hoyt Charger, they introduced me to the 2015 Hoyt Charger with the Fuse package.
I asked them to match the price Archer's Afield gave my buddy for his package. The shop told me that they could not because Hoyt regulates dealer pricing. I was skeptical about why Archer;s Afield could make my buddy a good deal. So I called them out on it.
Ironically my buddy had brought his bow with him to buy a new rest. The rest which came with his bow was already rubbing the fletchings and shaft of his arrows. They took one look at his bow and broke some bad news to us. They sure educated on what was supposed to be on the bow. It became apparent he bought a Hoyt Charger with an "Archers Afield" package. They placed the bows side by side and did a comparison. Along with bringing out the Hoyt catalog to demonstrate the proper listed components.
The package sold by Archers Afield was certainly not a Hoyt package or even close to the quality. It was a bastardized version using "out of date" older parts. The rest was dated back 10 years. The sight was not a current selling model either. So what we thought was great deal for $650.00 has now cost my buddy an additional 50.00 for a stabilizer and now $140 for a new rest. So at $840.00, he still doesn't have the quality of components that I walked out the door for $699.00 which is MSRP for the Hoyt Charger 2015 with Fuse package. I am sure they didn't have it advertised as the Hoyt package, but as newbies we were taken advantage of.
I have spent the past two days since hearing this bad news researching the components my buddy's bow had installed. This has been verified. Needless to say, Archer's Afield may have gotten an initial 700.00 from my friend, but they lost out on a possible lifetime customer and they did not get the $700.00 for my new bow and my possible lifetime business.
And yes...I got my Hoyt Archery Hat like everyone else who buys a brand new Hoyt bow. lol
GO...
Read moreI have been to many archery shops over the years and seems they are all alike - kinda snobbish and yet kinda down to earth and Archers Afield is no difference.
I went there for the first time about 4 months ago and then a few times since then.....
it is a relatively nice shop and nice gal at the front desk, so-so selection BUT after that it goes down hill...
When I first went in I wanted to check out my options and perhaps get into something "more traditional" so I was looking for a relatively inexpensive (under $350) recurve bow set up.
I wanted to be able to take game with it (powerful), I wanted to be able to pack it (take-down), I wanted simple maintenance (low-tech), I wanted something that i could grow with (additional weight limbs) and to learn a more "primitive" skill set. This is also to accent my current bushcraft/ hiking set up and also for use as a SHTF option.
Apparently, I was not understood or I maybe was but because I wasn't there to dump $600+ and get a popular compound bow I was quickly passed off to a nice older guy who figured out my draw length and set me up with some unknown "mid weight" compound bow and a few arrows and told me to shoot a few -
I took my first shot and bam!!! a ton of pain on my left forearm followed by redness and black/ blue bruising - to which he said "yeah that happens when your form is wrong" - gee thanks !!!! could've told me ...
I took another shot and put my elbow out like he showed me (helpful) and no pain - cool !!! after about 24 shots i hung up the bow and met up with him and asked when can I try a recurve bow and do the same (since that's what I wanted to do when I walked in)
No matter what I asked or mentioned about wanting to shoot a recurve and "try one out" and they kept trying to get me to look at more expensive bows that were compound or just couldn't be bothered to help me out any further.
It really is too bad, because I wanted to like these guys and they are local but i am only looking to spend a modest amount of money and on technology they don't think is worth promoting. (tiny traditional/ recurve section)
Needless to say I was annoyed and left without purchasing anything. Not very professional staff, no one really seemed to care, store needs serious cleaning and tidying and unless you are ready to dump serious cash or a little bit of cash and get out -...
Read moreI've been going here since summer of 2014, when I first started up with archery. My son and I made a progression from the beginner bows to some olympic style recurves, shooting barebow. We have bought the yearly pass, and attended organized store tournaments and organized practices. For the most part, its been routine service, however recently I had an issue that caused me to write this very positive review. I bought a compound bow used that needed a new string, so I asked for some custom colors from the color selector on the bowstring material manufacturers web site (not the string maker). I wanted red and black string, and I thought the colors I picked were good. The string came back and it looked purple and black. The problem was mainly due to the color on the web pdf document did not match the real color. The store worked with the stringmaker and they were able to get me a new string that matches my bow much better (choosing a better color from the bowstring material). I was only charged for the one set of string/cables. I basically didn't like what I had custom ordered, and they treated me like the customer is always right attitude. One thing to note, after reading some other reviews here... the shop can get busy during certain times of the year. If you need help, ask. If you don't know about a product, ask. All the folks here are good people and will...
