Seeing a movie at the Joy is always a great experience. Can't recommend it enough. They play second run movies as well as classic horror movies and comedies that are great to see on the big screen. They don't list the schedule too far in advance so make sure to check back every week to see what's coming up. The seats aren't the most comfortable, but that's part of the vintage experience that people like me love about going here. It feels like going to the movies when I was a kid. They have some food, like pizza and nachos, as well as all of the usual movie snacks. They actually have a better candy selection than other theaters, and everything is so affordable! Don't be a jerk and bring in outside food. The stuff inside is nearly as cheap as at the store and it really helps this little theater stay in business and keep their prices low when you buy some popcorn, or something, with your ticket. They also seem to have a pretty good selection of beer, and at least one cider, though I don't drink so I can't comment on that too much. Overall, I just love this place and it's my favorite part of the neighborhood. I'm so glad they're still going and survived the pandemic. I appreciate them even more, now. If you like movies and supporting charming local businesses, this is a great place to grab a snack and enjoy an affordable movie.
Edit: So the Joy has a changed a bit and this review isn't completely accurate anymore. They now show current movies and not so much of the weird stuff and classics. Still a great place to see a movie...
Read moreI've lived in tigard for 12 years. I finally went to joy cinima for I wanted to see the new wonka movie. We buy our tickets and move on into the theater. All to ourselves. Just my girlfriend and I. All alone. Still had 10 mins left before the movie so I took a quick 420 break out at my car. I return to my seat . Again it's just my girlfriend and myself. 5 mins into the movie. I've got a flashlight in my face being accused of smoking weed in the building. He could smell it. I assured him I was in my car when I smoked. He continued to lecture me then finally went away. During his lecture he mentioned that the cinéma was a bar. He tells us they serve alcohol. So 5 mins later my girlfriend wanted a wine so she goes to order wine. He refused to serve her cus he said I was to high.. needless to say I still have not seen the wonka movie. It took everything I had Within me not to let the guy know what time it is. I had to promise my gf I wouldn't let him know how I felt about the situation. Again we were the only people in the entire theater. I'm still trying to make up my mind to get my money back. The people at dollar tree told us he buys his candy from them then puts triple high price tag on it to sell. It is no wonder the...
