What can I say? It's a beautiful city park. And of decent size. There are a decent amount of trails to walk along, a nice pond courtesy of Summer Creek, and there are lots of things to do there.
I frequented the park's Basketball court near-weekly, but only if there was a place available. The nicer the weather gets, the more people flock to the park, and most specifically the Tennis courts and Basketball court.
The Basketball court is actually very nicely done, with a surface not commonly seen at any parks with courts. The hoops are very sturdy, meaning if you can dunk, hanging on them is something that will cause the hoops no issue. The nets are very easily eroded since we tend to have pretty rainy weather, there's no cover and the court is so heavily used. But all in all, it's a great place to play or practice some Bball.
(Note to cities: please build more than just one or two courts. And do something to either lessen the hydroplane of the court surface when rained on, or put a cover over the courts. The residents will thank you for it by playing on it constantly, I promise!)
There is a small playground on Winterlake Drive, where the Basketball and Tennis courts are, just a short walk in from the street. There is also a small covered picnic area with two barbeques for a good summertime party. Next to it is two drinking fountains and four bathroom stalls. Along with this side of the park, there is a large field, with a kickball/softball/baseball diamond readied to go, though don't expect a clean-cut, well kept one. It's very grassy as they struggle to win the war over the diamond with the grass and weeds.
The field itself is plenty big enough for those who want to play with a frisbee or boomerang (unless you're an Ultimate player and get a little too into your throws). Also it's a great start/end point for anyone wanting to use a drone. I have in fact actually been playing basketball while someone was flying their drone to and from there.
The last thing on this side of the park is a small dog park for the schnupperlup owners who wish to AWWWW over their puppers making new friends.
On the other side of the park, there is a large playground, and a smaller field. If I wasn't 6'2" and a 23 year old guy, I'd rate the structure a 6/10 (after all, it's no Washington Park).
All in all it's a gorgeous park, and if it was so heavily frequented, and there were more basketball courts, I'd rate the park a...
Read more30 years ago when I first came her on a visit, I came to this park... It was a new park. The trees were babies.. as you walked the path around the pond you could see across the park to the play area.. you could stand on one bridge and see the other bridge.. there was no overgrown shrubbery at the edge of the water and you could easily get to the water on the muddy edge surrounding the pond.. the weasel rodents we're plenty and I remember feeding them by hand. They had long yellow orange teeth that could remove a whole finger in a split second.. .. I realize that probably wasn't too smart but I was young then and lacked experience.. it's been a very long time since I've been in this park.. my child is grown and married now..today I walked through the park and I could not help to notice how big the trees are now.. I could not believe that you can not see across the park to the play ground. I was amazed at how much coverage is at the waters edge.. I could not believe that while standing on one bridge I could no longer see the other bridge.. I am stunned that the growth of this park has...
Read moreThe park is pretty and the lake is nice for fishing. Two stars because of the community. I was setting up my jig so I tied my 6 month old PUPPY by where I was fishing and these ladies were passing by with their DOG and their dog and my puppy were pulling towards each other but I had a hook in my hand so I was just verbally telling my pup it was ok and the lady very rudely says “can you pet your dog!” just because she couldn’t control her big dog from pulling towards us. My puppy was tied with one foot of space on the leash. Then as I was leaving a man told me to control my dog because she was pulling a little towards the geese but I was even telling her she was doing a good job since she’s improved then he tells me to control my dog as he was passing very big rowdy dogs getting close to him? I don’t want to be that person but don’t come here if you’re brown because trust me when I tell you I was the ONLY colored person there. Don’t believe me? Take a look at the race that’s leaving the most reviews for this place. I just wanted to fish and mind my...
