Breakout Games — Attraction in Timonium

My group had an amazing time at Breakout Games! We've been there twice now, the first time we did Mystery Mansion and this last time we did Bomb Squad, and both rooms were incredible! I've been to a few other escape rooms, and I can say with certainty that Breakout Games are the best ones I've ever done! The game masters are terrific and know when to give you clues if they can see you're stuck going down a wrong path, and when to let you figure it out on your own. We had 8 people in our group both times, and while I was worried that would be too many people, it absolutely wasn't and I feel like everyone in the group had a puzzle to solve and something to work on at all times, especially with Bomb Squad where there are a few parallel puzzles to solve.

I also want to mention that we had a small technical difficultly at the start of the Bomb Squad escape room (the TV wouldn't work correctly and some of the light effects in the room seemed to malfunction) but the staff handled these minor issues incredibly well and as a result we didn't feel at all like our experience had been lessened. We left the escape room perfectly happy with our entire experience, and then as we were leaving, one of the staff offered us a complimentary escape room to compensate us for the small malfunctions. I just feel like that was an incredibly nice gesture and I want to highlight how well managed this place is and how great the staff is because they absolutely did not have to do that; we were happy and would have been back regardless! This was my very first experience with any sort of escape room and Will, one of the Game Masters, was a huge part of making this a positive experience (read the last paragraph for details). The room we chose, Mystery Mansion, was great fun for our entire family - ages 9 to 41. Will was very helpful whenever it seemed we were getting frustrated and perhaps becoming counterproductive in our pursuit of clues. Without his assistance, I would likely be writing this review from inside the escape room right now. That said, with a few hints here and there, the room was still challenging while being tons of fun. I would certainly recommend this location, and this particular room, for other families.

Now, for the "above and beyond" stuff. The point of this particular family outing was a bit more than Friday night fun. It was a ruse of sorts that would culminate in a marriage proposal. Will went out of his way to assist! Meeting with him ahead of time, I was able to have the ring placed in the room as a clue without anyone having any idea what would soon be taking place. Needless to say, everyone was surprised and the proposal went off without a hitch (she said yes!). Breakout Games Timonium is a five star experience in every way. Orion was a wonderful game master for my first three rooms and that was followed up by another wonderful game master, James. Their hints her helpful, but tread the line well of being just helpful enough so you get the satisfaction of having solved the puzzle. Their personable attitudes made it easy to converse with them whether it was a hint or some course correction.

The atmosphere and puzzle design for each room is as unique as it is fun to solve. You can tell the amount of care that goes into each experience which is only made more impressive by the sheer amount of rooms they have available!

In addition, we had the pleasure of meeting Mark, the manager, who was equally personable and really took the time to show his appreciation for us as customers. Definitely be sure to check out Breakout Games the next time you are...
