They get 4 stars for affordable ticket prices and Concessions Stand items . We went there to see the Led Zeppelin Documentary because it wasn't playing at Regal or AMC in our area. South Bay was recently renovated so I went there with high expectations. They don't have a front entrance that stands out . We went to the front of the building facing Montauk Hwy but it was a false front. The entrance is in the back , facing the parking lot. No clear signs , though. Once inside there is a small booth to the left to buy your tickets. From there you can take a series of steps up or there is a long ramp next to the steps. This leads directly to the concession stand. Prices for popcorn are $8 for a large. $3 for a large pretzel. $4 for a bag of cotton candy. The popcorn has unlimited refills. What I didn't care for was the self serve area for the popcorn. When we got there there was a huge mess of popcorn all over the floor and carpet where it dispenses. Such a waste. I hope they rethink this. You can also dispense your own butter. Oh boy what a mess it all was. And, of course, much of that fallen popcorn was tracked by people seeking out their theater of choice. So the carpet may have been new but it already looked old and matted. Ours was theater 5. It did not have stadium seating or reclining seats so the screen was set high on the wall. The seats were leather(?) and plush with cup holders and were comfortable. South Bay lost points here because although the aisles were clear of debris there was clearly no one wiping the seats or cupholders. Many of the seats were greasy and the cup holders were nasty. It took us a few minutes to find two seats together that were clean enough to sit in. After the documentary two employees came in and waited at the back of the room for people to file out. They talked quietly about how easy the job was. Made me wonder about what exactly was in that job description because , clearly it didn't involve deeper cleaning than sweeping the...
Read moreI went to see a movie today there. When I got of the bus I was wondering where was the movie theater. I was very surprised to see a movie Theater to look like that. We decided to take a risk to enter the Theater. I don't know how the Theater pass inspection. I figured it was a ok theater because didn't smell when I first enter the Theater. When I got to Theater 4 the smell like to knock me out. I had to go to the front desk and ask for some kind of spray. Theater 4 smell like pee and it needed it carpet clean. I have seen crack houses on television that looked better then that. It smelled like a place where they sale animals. A pet store smells better then that who had peed everywhere so never go there save your money go pay for a movie even is a movie is free there. South Bay Cinema needs to start taking up donations to improve the appearance of theather in order...
Read moreWent to see the movoe "the martian" on openi g night.....Staff is very friendly and Great price but that's the only good thing to say about this place. Driving up to it you would think that it's abandoned or a dirty porn thearter that's falling apart. Walking into the bathroom it looks like it has never been cleaned as I was staring at a sink that will not shut off and 2 urinals that won't flush. Getting into the theater itself you notice ceiling panels are missing and dust is caked up on the lights speakers and seats. Not to mention there are dirt spots all over the screen. Bottom line this place has potential to be great but the owners despretly need to sink some money into a renovation of this place. As a resident living 2 blocks from here I would love to see this place as a state of the art modern...
