Wish my family and I could find the nice polite staff that the other people are writing about in their reviews. Unfortunately my family and I have had many bad experiences multiple times with the staff at this library. We wanted to participate and take advantage of the museum tickets reservations that were available. When my husband asked for assistance with making the reservation and obtaining the tickets the librarian refused to help him because she stated that our daughter went to Babylon School district which is true however, we reside in West Babylon and are West Babylon residence and we had the proof. Unfortunately she stated that she could no longer assist my husband due to the fact that our daughter attended Babylon School district and told us to ask Babylon Library for assistance instead. On another occasion, it was a Saturday and my husband was finishing his college paper and after his 3 hour computer use was asked to leave because the policy states that he is only allowed to use the computer for three hours. Understandable but he still asked if the librarian can be courteous as he was almost done with his paper and she refused. Then my husband asked to speak to a supervisor and she stated that she was the supervisor and could not make an exception. My husband stated that he had gotten an extension before and asked since when did they no longer allow extensions and she refused to give him an answer and demanded for him to leave. There was no one else in the computer room and there were still a couple of hours left till closing. We understand rules are rules and guidelines have be followed but kindness, politeness and courtesy is what this library...
Read moreI came to the West Babylon Public Library with my two young children and my mother, and the experience was extremely upsetting. While my 2-year-old was playing in the children’s section, the security guard yelled at him directly, making him cry, instead of addressing me or my mom (who was supervising him). When I calmly told the guard that it is not appropriate to speak to a toddler that way, another staff member who wasn’t even involved came over, puffed her chest out at me, and told me to “relax” instead of addressing the situation. This isn’t an isolated incident — we have repeatedly been followed around and policed by the same guard when visiting the library. The behavior feels discriminatory and unwelcoming. When I asked for the names of the staff involved, they refused to give them, which shows a complete lack of transparency. Families deserve to feel safe and respected in a community library, not intimidated or targeted. This kind of treatment is unacceptable, and I hope the administration takes...
Read moreNice and clean library. Easy to request books even from other libraries. Librarians are helpful and are always around. There is even a way to rent a Roku and museum passes are so great! HOWEVER, it is NOT a quiet library for studying. Librarians do not use library voices, people will pick up calls in the "quiet area", and theres a lady that brings her dog that barks (and no one does anything about it). There are some study rooms (1hr limit) that are usually full during summer time. Some desks have power outlets, some don't. I also noticed they have many programs for kids, haven't used,...
