Sarah May Floral Design — Attraction in Town of Chester

When I hired Sarah, I told her there was only one flower I really love and wanted to be the focal point my bouquet - a large King Protea flower. I showed her some inspiration photos and she said it would not be an issue to get. I ordered white thistle boutonnières for the groom/groomsmen, flower corsages for our moms, and greenery runners (with flowers matching our bouquets) as our guest table centerpieces. For our sweetheart table, I ordered greenery runners with some extra flowers. Weeks leading up to my wedding, it was extremely difficult to get in touch with Sarah. My wedding planner said Sarah was the only vendor she had not heard back from. I wanted to meet Sarah to go over last minute details weeks before the wedding, but every time I attempted to meet her, she either didn’t respond, or said she was too busy. I finally met her the day before my wedding, she mentioned she had been so busy because she had accidentally double booked a wedding that same weekend. Not once did she mention anything was wrong with the flowers I ordered for the wedding. On the morning of my wedding, the flower delivery arrived and I was SO upset and disappointed. I thought maybe she made the wrong delivery because it was not what I ordered. Instead of white thistle boutonnières, she sent me pink carnation boutonnières. I hate carnations. I reached out to her as I was getting my makeup done, asking her what happened with the boutonnières. She claims she “thought” she sent me an email to tell me the thistle that arrived were not in good condition, and so she didn’t want to use it. She never sent me this email, didn’t even bother reaching out to me to tell me over phone or in person the day before the wedding when I met up with her to tell me that she would substitute it with carnations. I told her I was very upset about it and asked if there’s anything she would be able to do to fix it, and she responded that she was at the venue setting up, and “would try to see” what she could do, and then NEVER RESPONDED to me for the rest of the day! She completely just went MIA and didn’t bother trying to fix her mistake, which is extremely unprofessional. My husband never even put on the groom boutonnière, we just threw it out. When we arrived at the venue, the tables only had a greenery runner, and nothing else- no scattered flowers (matching our bouquets) like I had paid for. The sweetheart table, I asked for it to be decorated some more floral than the guest tables, and it was literally just greenery and not a single flower or any other floral decor. I had to use my bouquet as decor because my sweetheart was so bare looking that it was embarrassing. The corsages that she sent me were all fake flowers. The King Protea flower that I requested to be the focal point of my bouquet was also a fake flower with a plastic stem, and there were several other large fake flowers in my bouquet. It’s upsetting to know that I paid nearly $4k just to find out my bouquet was filled with fake flowers. I never heard back from her on my wedding day, or the days that followed, with an apology on what happened. Two days later, while on my honeymoon, I was still so upset about this that I reached out to discuss it with her. She admitted she was wrong about the boutonnières and refunded me for the cost of the boutonnières. She did not apologize for using fake flowers in my bouquet, and claimed that those flowers also arrived in bad condition, so she substituted it with fake flowers (without ever informing me). She claimed she would go to the market and buy me a fresh King Protea flower, and preserve it for me, which I did not even want. She refused to refund me for the fake corsages, and told me verbatim, “all my corsages come standard as fake, if you follow my Instagram, you’d know that”. What a rude and completely unprofessional response. She was not transparent, difficult to contact, and I would not recommend her to anyone. I wish I could give more than five stars. I cannot recommend Sarah enough. Everything with our florals went completely flawless. Not only did she deliver exactly what she said she was going too but she went above and beyond. Sarah gave us her personal cell phone number and was just a simple text away. We last minute decided to add our dog to our ceremony. Sarah was completely accommodating and made a floral collar true to size to her that she wore all night. Sarah waited onsite for our guys to arrive to pin boutonnieres on them, after setting up our gorgeous floral arrangements all morning! Sarah was more than understanding with all my requests, different sized bouquets for bridesmaids and jr. bridesmaids, custom flower basket for my flower girl that fit our theme with fresh flowers pedals, extra flowers left at the venue to decorate our cake, dog collar floral week before our wedding, simple guest table designs so we could spend more money on other arrangements, extra flowers DAY OF to put in my hair, you name it Sarah accommodated it. Sarah was budget friendly and repurposed everything from our ceremony into the reception! Not only did she repurpose the day of, she came to the venue after the wedding collected all our florals and brought them to our send off brunch location where she set them up for us to enjoy the next day!!!! Talk about dedication. Sarah truly loves what she does and it shows in her work. She was able to combine all the inspiration pictures I sent her to turn them all into my dream. I messaged Sarah about six months before my wedding because flowers were honestly such an after thought to me. However, the service I received no one would of guessed we worked together for such a short period of time. I had no idea what I wanted for flowers either, Sarah was able to make recommendations off our style and budget and completely read my mind as to what I wanted, I had zero clue what would be important day of, Sarah’s expertise really came in handy and her recommendations were absolutely perfect. Sarah was determined to give us everything we wanted and more. Sarah was by far our easiest vendor to work with even though we had so little time with her. She stayed in the budget we mentioned at our first meeting, she delivered everything that was expected and more, she communicated thoroughly and her professionalism was top notch. We had the pleasure of working with Sarah May Floral Designs for our wedding at The Barn at Villa Venezia, and the floral arrangements were stunning. Sarah’s extensive experience with the venue reassured us that she knew exactly how to enhance the space beautifully.

Floral Design and Execution: Sarah’s design for our ceremony was breathtaking. We had a small bridal party with only two bouquets, and she wisely recommended allocating a significant portion of our budget toward the ceremony florals, which we could then repurpose behind the head table. This creative approach was fantastic and added a cohesive and elegant touch to both the ceremony and reception. The two free-standing pillars she created framed the ceremony space perfectly. Additionally, she delivered the bouquets to our hotel at 11 am on the day of the wedding and even provided extra flowers for the detail shots, which our photographer greatly appreciated.

Communication and Organization: While Sarah’s floral designs were exquisite, her communication and organization skills left a bit to be desired. Initially, I was a bit worried due to some inconsistent communication and organizational hiccups. However, I had heard from others, including The Barn staff, that she always pulls it together in the end. To ease my concerns, I highly recommend meeting with Sarah in person rather than relying solely on phone or email communications. Keeping copies of all correspondence and details proved helpful, as there were instances where she needed me to resend information that had been misplaced or forgotten.

Overall Experience: Despite the initial concerns, Sarah’s beautiful work and fair pricing made her a wonderful choice for our wedding florist. We even received a discount through a recommendation, which was a nice bonus. If her communication and organizational skills were a bit more polished, it would be a perfect experience. Nonetheless, the end result was absolutely gorgeous, and we are very pleased with how everything turned out.
