Freeport Memorial Library — Attraction in Town of Hempstead

I would normally give a five star because the library was my go to place to get some quiet time to do homework and study. However, today I had a bad encounter due to the new 1 hour limit stay per person. It’s fair to point out that I understand because of the pandemic. My issue is that I was not using any computers. I was using a table and a seat, I had my personal computer. There were barely any people at the library and I was out of everyone way, doing my school work. I am doing remote learning because my college is closed and the only place I have quiet time is at the library. If you want a quiet space to study I would NOT recommend the library right now. Someone came up to me and told me my hour was “up” and I had to leave. I asked if I could stay a few extra minutes to get some work done and I was denied. It’s unfair because there are so many college students who are doing everything online and it’s difficult to find a place where you can do this with no distractions. One hour...

Security guard is extremely rude, yelled at me and my friend who were coming into study because we had coffee cups ( both cups with lids on). Told us we had to leave because no drinks are allowed. Meanwhile there’s two vending machines there with food and drinks as soon as you walk in. So this means it is okay to eat or drink as long as you buy it there. When I asked why we can’t have our coffee he yelled “this is a library. What do you expect”. I expect better. Library’s should be made convenient and accessible so people will want to go to them.

I highly recommend going to Oceanside Library instead. You can eat and drink in there, and no one will yell at you when...

Our Freeport Memorial Library has so many program selections for all ages and groups. The library has so many aspects to supply the assistance anyone might need or request. I've been a patron for over 30 years and take advantage of their Art Programs, Health, Fun Events and Open Discussions, Book Clubs and a Training Room downstairs and many Computers when needed with privacy. Their displays change rapidly too. It's my "home away from home" and enjoy meeting new patrons...
