The service is rude and the pricing is outrageous. The owner can come on here and try to bash me for my review but that's my opinion. Any reason why your prices are not listed ANYWHERE? Well, I'll post it for you and save your customers the shock at the register. This store is self serve and weighs your item(s) at the register. As of the date of this review, the cost is 86 CENTS AN OUNCE. They only provide one type of cup... it's extra large and basically looks like a small bucket. They have no problem watching your kids use their machines to fill up the cups with frozen yogurt but the moment they touch a topping the way they don't approve of, they scold you.
My kids excitedly ran in with another mom, and by the time I walked in (which was maybe 3 min later) they had filled their cups. I could have tossed their cups in the trash and started over but I didn't do that. The first cup gets weighed, it's $18. This was the price for one cup, for one kid(!!). The second cup goes on and it's about the same price. $36 for two frozen yogurt cups for just two kids?? I managed the third cup for my youngest kid and that still came out to $9. I left the register having paid about $45+ for 3 kids to get some frozen yogurt. That's insanity. To top it off, the employee at the register kept pushing me to pay. Maybe because he was used to customers questioning the price and walking out. Maybe I should have done exactly that, but I paid for my items. It took a minute because I was in major shock at the total, but I did pay quickly (and I wasn't holding up any lines, the store was basically empty at that time).
It just so happens that I myself worked at a TCBY when I was younger. It was like most ice cream shops. Pick a cup/cone, the employee fills it up, you add a topping if you like and you pay the SET prices for that cup/cone size. Based on the TCBY website, in NY, if the store is not self serve the estimate cost for a Large cup is $5.13. A very big difference from the $18 I paid for one cup.
I understand this is a family owned franchise to support your family. But what about the dozens of families that overpay at your store for frozen yogurt? Not many of us can afford to splurge $45+ for 3 cups of frozen yogurt. You can easily offer more cup options or even set prices on S/M/L cup sizes ...or at the very least, POST YOUR PRICES IN YOUR STORE, so customers know what to expect. I believe the owner prefers it this way so that you are stuck paying an exorbitant amount at the register, when it's too late.
While the product is good and the store was clean, I do not think it is worth the price. It also felt way worse because it was like a trap (prices are not posted and the cup-buckets are huge). I always loved TCBY, having been an employee myself once, but I will stick to the ice cream shop right across the street (full menus and prices clearly listed for all to see). I hope the owner makes some changes after reading my review....and thinks about all families, not just theirs. If not, at least other customers can learn from my misfortune with this review and save themselves...
Read moreThis review is being written after several visits and noticing a pattern. I have gone in the afternoon and at night (not anywhere close to closing time) and every time I’ve gone, the workers are extremely rude and try to rush you. After you pour out your froyo and move over to the toppings station, as soon as you try to lift a spoon, a worker is there ready to rudely fix the spoon as if we’re being a nuisance by giving them our business. One time, a worker touched my hand as I was reaching for the spoon, what is wrong with you guys? You can’t wait till somebody leaves to fix it? This place is empty majority of the times I’ve gone. I could understand fixing all the spoons after I get to the end of the line but as I’m making my order, it’s extremely rude and just bad business etiquette.
The froyo is decent, topping selection is good, which is why I gave it 2 stars. But will easily run you $12 just for a normal serving. You don’t know how much you’ll pay till you get to the end because they don’t have a weighing station for customers, don’t have any signs of how the pricing is conducted, it’s actually a little shady.
After my last experience where the worker touched my hand, I won’t be returning. I feel like it was very unnecessary and they didn’t even apologize. Yet they leave responses to reviews preaching that they’re not rude and customers are...
Read moreFirst time coming to this shop and I immediately came upon overhearing one of the employees openly discussing inappropriate content that others may hear and feel uncomfortable with. It's not appropriate to expressively discuss political subjects where there is a flux of customers of all different settings. It is also a dessert shop. It can affect business and there is a time and place to where such things can be discussed. Unprofessional...
