I arrived at Gravity Vault Westbury to try out my new climbing shoes. I was checked in and got ready to climb; it was going to be my first time attempting a V7. The staff was very friendly, and the manager Jason struck up a brief conversation with me and gave me some motivation and advice before my climb which was much appreciated. I began to climb and when I was no more than 2 feet off the ground my foot slipped off the rock and I fell down. I had assumed I'd hit the mat and begin again, but nay, I continued to fall. At that second the gates to the underworld opened and I had fallen through a ring of fire, down and down I went. When I had landed I was met face to face with the Devil. He put me in a prison of obsidian bars and ashy air, it was hot and I struggled to breath. I thought all hope was lost and I’d spend eternity here, but then a sliver of light opened up from the heavens. Manager Jason appeared in the sky and descended down to my location. The Devil met Jason and you could feel the tension in the air. Jason proclaimed “I'm here for him” and pointed in my direction. The Devil laughed a hardy laugh saying he will never let me leave. Jason reached into his jacket pocket; a stern look on his face, and for a moment I saw fear in the devil's eyes. Was it a sword? An ancient weapon he could use to slay the beast and set me free? Then I saw it, a fiddle. A simple wooden fiddle. I couldn't imagine how he would help me with this, and the devil laughed, knowing he faced no threat from this simple instrument. The Devil said “I may have lost when I went down to Georgia, but this is my turf, and it was foolish of you to come here today”. I had to agree, I looked away afraid to look at what fate awaited my valiant hero, but then I heard it. A glamorous sound. An immaculate tune. Golden streams blew from the strings and wrapped themselves around me, freeing me from my prison and I rose and rose into the sky I rose past rings of fire, past fleeing demons, past the floor of Gravity Vault Westbury, and continued to rise until I laid my hand on the top rock of my V7. I had completed my task and I looked down, and the floor had closed. Jason was trapped, he had sacrificed his soul for mine. I dropped to my knees at the thought of my hero trapped there with that beast. Months later I got the courage to return to Gravity Vault Westbury and to try a V8. I walked through the doors and I saw him, Jason. I have no idea how he did it but it didn't matter, he was home. I looked at him, not knowing what to say to the man who saved my soul from eternal damnation. He gave me a look that said “don't mention it”. That's when I knew, this is the kind of customer service that is to be expected at a place such as Gravity Vault...
Read moreFirst time visiting. We had an amazing experience! My son and I did a private climbing session with Josh as our trainer and belayer, and he was absolutely fantastic. Super friendly, patient, and encouraging — he made sure we felt safe and confident every step of the way. He explained everything clearly and really helped us get the hang of it quickly.
The facility itself is huge, clean, and well-maintained, with tons of climbing options for all levels. It was our first time doing something like this, and we left already talking about when we can come back. The price was very reasonable for a private session, especially considering the quality of instruction and how much fun we had.
Highly recommend checking this place out — and if you can, request Josh. He made the...
