Suffolk County Parks — Attraction in Town of Islip

Be careful with the employees and people who work for the parks! Make sure you take down names and are very clear in the purchases and exchanges you are making.

Approximately a month ago, I went to Smiths Point to get an active military day pass and drive onto the outer beach. Typically, these day passes are free for active military. There was someone young and new working and he was having issues with the exchange and called someone over for help. I instructed them that if it was no longer free I didn't need or want to drive on as I live extremely close and only planned to go for about an hour so it wouldn't have been worth it. They worked on the computer and then told me I was all set and gave me my "free" day pass. I followed up just to make sure there were no errors or anything that would hold me up with getting onto the beach and that it was free to which they reassured me I would have no problems and the pass was free. Fast forward to today, I go to get a new green key card and the Sayville Parks office advises me I have a debt of $44 for my "free" day pass. I payed that today after explaining the situation to Julie who took the matter to her supervisor Allison McCann. Julie and Allison stated I was being charged because at the time I did not have my green key card, however the employees at smiths point told me at the time it was irrelevant because I am active military and I did have it and it had just expired. I write this review today not about the money but because I strongly feel that what occurred is unfair. If my green key card was an issue, I should have been told it was at the time instead of being told the opposite. An incorrect entry into the computer by the employees at smiths point park as well as the unqualified and incapable employees has resulted in me being charged.
