I purchased a Byrna CL for home defense in July 2025. Rob was a pleasure to work with. When I first met Rob, I noticed the handgun he was carrying inside the front of his waistband. After sharing that I have never walked into a gun store before and felt out of my element, he immediately made me feel comfortable. Rob was patient, knowledgeable, and personable.
Before purchasing the Byrna, Rob let me demo it using the target range in the back of the store. He went over the pros and cons of each Byrna model. I came in having done a fair amount of research on the Byrna lineup. I was most interested in the SD and LE models. Rob strongly recommended the CL. Even though it was the most expensive of the 3, he explained that the CL is the most compact model, making it easy to conceal carry. It is more powerful than the SD and just as powerful as the LE, which is bulkier and heavier.
Once I decided on the CL, it was time to stock up on accessories! Rob helped me pick out a safe, along with an optic, green laser/flashlight, target tent, extra magazines, CO2 cartridges, and projectiles. I never felt pressured to make a decision and Rob answered all of my questions.
I also signed up for a 1-hour training class with Rob two days later where he taught me how to safely load/unload the gun, how to hold it, and how to stand properly while shooting.
Based on the research I did beforehand, I knew what I was buying was a bit overpriced. I have always liked to support small, local businesses so I decided to proceed.
Overall, my experience with Equilibrium was very positive. There is one critical gripe I have that holds me back from giving this review 5 stars. Between the Byrna CL itself, all accessories, and the training class, my bill was over $2,000!
When I asked Rob if the store offered a discount for healthcare workers like myself, he said they only offer military discounts for his training class. When I asked if he could do any better on pricing, he said he did not have the authority to discount any products.
The only thing he offered me was $25 off his $150 training class. He said because the training class is through his own company, he had some flexibility. Rob is the Assistant Manager of the store. I was surprised he did not have any leeway, especially when a new customer like myself makes such a large purchase. I was a little insulted that on a $2,000 purchase, I was only given $25 off.
I am grateful to Rob for his help and guidance through the process. I do NOT regret giving my business to Equilibrium. Their vast selection of inventory and staff's level of knowledge is impressive. In that regard, I would absolutely recommend Equilibrium Firearms. Understand their products are pricey. If you like to support small, local businesses like I do, I...

I really didn’t want to write this, but after telling my firearms instructor what happened, she insisted I should warn others.
I came to Equilibrium Firearms with a friend for a simple pistol transfer. While there, the staff seemed nice and talkative, and I got roped into looking at a few pistols. I ended up buying one on the spot after being told it was a great deal. That was a mistake.
When I got home, I did some research and talked to a friend who works at another shop—turns out I overpaid by $400 on a $600 item. Yes, four hundred dollars. Every other local store had it for way less.
When I went back to pick it up, I politely asked if they could at least match the market price. Instead of any real help, I got attitude and was basically brushed off. They threw in a “free” $25 holster that they had the nerve to mark up to $79.99 in their store.
Bottom line: avoid this place. Customer service might seem friendly, but the prices are borderline predatory, and it’s clear they rely on pressure and misinformation to make a sale. Overcharging customers and then asking for glowing reviews? That’s just shady.
Response to the owner:
I have to say that the response from the owner is infuriating as he’s trying to castigate me as someone with a buyer’s remorse - it’s not buyers remorse when you are charging almost 50% more than the market! Moreover, you have no respect from any firearms instructors in Long Island or local forums!
Moreover, dismissing my concerns as “influenced by outside opinions” is a lazy and transparent attempt to invalidate legitimate criticism. This wasn’t hearsay—it was hard evidence from multiple well-established local shops and confirmation from an industry professional. But sure, go ahead and pretend it's all gossip.
Your response only proves my point: a fake-friendly front that turns defensive and condescending the moment someone calls out your pricing. If you actually cared about transparency or customer service, you would’ve addressed the issue when I brought it to you in person—not waited to spin a polished excuse once...
Read moreI love guns. I enjoy shooting airguns and target practice. I figured it's time to buy a real gun for home defense. We are living in turbulent times and I need a firearm to protect my family in case a home intruder with deadly intent breaks Into our home. A few days ago I decided to go to equilibrium for information on how I can exercise my 2nd amendment to protect my home. Immediately upon entering the store I was greeted by Devin. I could tell by looking at him that he was very knowledgeable experienced and respectful. He answered all my questions and although I did feel anxious. Tbh I was freaking scared but he made me feel very comfortable with the idea of owning a real fire arm. After verification he shared information about how to obtain a firearm license. I didn't waste anytime and I took his advice and I went to Nassau police department and pick up an application. They were very friendly and helpful also. I have a lot of respect for for the Nassau police department. Drive back to equilibrium and Devin assisted me on how to fill out the form and fulfill the requirements. At this point I was very comfortable with the idea of owning a firearm and I bought the best home defense 12 gauge shot gun I could buy. And I signed up for a one hour shotgun class. The very next day I took the class. Devin was my instructor. I have to mention that Devin is an incredible person. He was very patient with me. He thought me how to properly hold my gun. How to properly load, reload, shoot and clear my gun. He also thought me how to properly move while shooting. I learned how to properly stand while shooting. Afterwards he assisted me in purchasing a pepper gun and stun gun for non lethal self defense. I also bought some great accessories which he recommended for my shotgun. I look forward to taking the two day firearms training class as required by the state this weekend. I not only feel comfortable but also confident when handling a firearm. I'm very excited and I can't wait to learn more. Thank you Devin for everything. I am a very happy customer. Your help...
