Like most of us, i found this place on Instagram and tiktok. It IS worth the hype.
I came here on a sunday at 11:30am. My husband and i both came for the scalp treatment. They recommended the herbal treatment for my dry scalp and my husband got the ginger one. We waited about 5 to 10 mins for the room to be set up. Everyone was so nice.
They start off by asking you to put on a tube top situation. They honestly dont have anything for men so they gave my husband one too. They should just give the men towels. They asked us to lay down on our backs. They put pillows underneath our legs for comfort.
Both my husband and i were getting serviced at the same time which was nice. Since my husband doesn't have any hair, his experience was alot more massage focused. For me, i have alot of hair and i can tell the lady was having a hard time with my hair. This was NOT her fault and instead mines. If you have super curly hair or super tight coils, i recommend coming with your hair already detangled. It makes the process alot easier for them and yourself. I did not detangle mines and after shampooing my hair, it turned into a matted mess. Because i had the herbal treatment, i had alot of leafs and flowers stuck in my hair. Lesson learned.
During the service, the lady scrubbed my scalp, massaged my neck, shoulders, a little bit of the chest area and my entire head. It felt relaxing and amazing. I wish they would use a scalp scrubber instead of their fingers however, they did not hurt me or scratch too hard. It honestly felt nice to experience. They placed a really hot rolled up towel under my neck. It feels extremely hot and good in the beginning. After a few minutes the towel started to hurt my skin. Once they removed it, I was back to comfort.
After the service, the lady who did my scalp massage disappeared. I usually see the clients post pictures and videos of them getting their scalp examined after the treatment, etc. I believe since my hair was extremely knotted after the treatment, she didnt want to face me nor mention it. I do feel like she could of addressed the elephant in the room and got it over with. I ended up having to leave her tip with the lady who serviced my husband instead.
Overall this place is amazing. The location itself can use a little updating. However, the way my scalp felt after this was awesome. I would come back for a scalp treatment again and neck and back massage. I highly recommend this place and feel like you should make sure to bring your deep conditioner and comb for afterwards, especially curly and...
Read moreI came to this establishment as a gift experience from a friend. My experience here was bittersweet, I've never had a scalp massage before so all this was new to me. The moment I arrived the owner and staff present were fairly welcoming however the staff didn't give me much guidance as far as how the scalp procedure was going to go through. They took me to a room and closed the door. I was left in the room without a clue whether I should take off anything - shoes, shirt? Should I lay, sit? Nothing.
The scalp massage was more tense than relaxing. The pressure points that this lady was working on me were very strong. The whole massage was very strong even though I asked if she can please decrease the tensity. The only relaxing part of this experience was when the lady left me alone with the scalp steamer on and the water running. I think the scalp massage experience would have been better if this woman wasn't so rough on my poor little scalp. Even hours later after this massage I can still feel her finger in my scalp 😩
The atmosphere was meh, it smelled like a basement because the location is at a lower level from a building. While I waited for my friend to finish her service, I notice a very tense work environment between the staff and owner. I have no clue what was being said bc they were communicating in a foreign language but the owner was speaking loud and almost scolding a staff member. The staff member seemed embarrassed and paced back and forth.
The worst and really disappointing is the tipping experience here. They have requirements when it comes to tipping. Meaning that regardless of how was your experience, they expect you to pay a certain tip amount for the service. When I asked where and why do they have that policy, they told me because the staff that work here make low wages and tips help make up for their work. Personally I believe the owner should be paying her staff a fair wage and tips should come as an extra income for the staff. It shouldn't be the customer responsibility to contribute the extra money the owner chooses not to compensate their staff. This meant that regardless of my experience, I'm "required" to leave an x&y tip just because?! This left me with a sour taste in my mouth, that the aggressive scalp massage I just received wasn't my main concern anymore. Beware and prepared coming here. They accept cash and venmo for payments. They also have a small outdoor...
Read moreWent to ijoy with my daughter for the Thai style treatment. Our experience was different than other reviews. We were politely greeted upon entering. There wasn't much conversation but the women clearly didn't completely speak English but we were able to communicate without any problems. We were escorted to a room with 2 wash tables and our Thai treatment and cost was confirmed. The 2 providers were setting up and directed us on what to do to get prepared. Once settled in the treatment started. Our hair and scalp was massaged and washed with pressure and some firm grasping to stimulate the scalp. In addition to the wash treatment they gave shoulder neck and arm massage. The steam portion was especially nice.
Only negatives are 1. that the walls are thin so even though soft spa music is playing you can still hear activity from the other people moving around and talking in the space, and 2. if you are African American or have thick or textured hair, they are not equipped to properly dry your hair. My hair is a different texture than my daughters so they were able to get it pretty much dried, but my daughter has thicker hair so her hair didn't dry all the way through and it just poofed up, so she had to go directly to her regular hair salon for a proper dry.
We didn't realize until we're were walking up but there is parking for the building on the side of the building.
All-in-all we had a decent experience. Might consider going again for the scalp massage but now we know to not have them dry our hair and be prepared to put in a leave-in and dry at home or salon for a...
