We have been part of SPAC for 4 years now, enrolled in the theatre workshops. There was a transition of directors and employees the last year and since than the theatre has become very unorganized. We have kept quiet about it but recently the lack of organization on their end led to giving our child an under study role that she was so excited for to then remove it from her weeks later due to a missed email from the child’s parent advising an error in the date that child would be out.
Family members moved their plans to buy tickets for the day she was assigned to be an under study and we moved our own personal plans to allow our daughter to be part of something she was so excited for. The best the theatre could do was just apologize. They did offer a refund of the tickets but that is not helpful to the hurt they provided our 11 year old daughter. They offered the corrected day to be the under study but now no family members or ourselves could go because of other plans. So now our daughter will be an under study for a role she was so excited for and no one will be in the audience to support her.
We are beyond upset with how they handled this and as a parent, this is not a fun thing to experience seeing your kid upset by the people who are meant to be...
Read moreI was very excited when I heard that the Smithtown Theater was playing, “Night of the Living Dead”. I was so overwhelmed since I have been an avid lover of the macabre since I was very young growing up. Having seen the original movie a thousand times, I found myself counting the days to finally see a version of it live, on stage. I walked into the theater with great expectations. It was dark—great ambiance!! The stage was phenomenally set and I was taken aback by the masterful artistry of the setting and scenery. I was not disappointed. I sat in my seat, enveloped by the thrill of actually being there; waiting with bated breath for the “horror” to begin. Even before the play started, there was an “imaginary”air of fear as some of the “living dead” wandered through the perimeters of the theater. The makeup and outfits were authentically out-of-this-world amazing. The actors were outstanding —-the innate skill palpable. I was a little scared—enough for my heart to skip a beat. LOL. The atmosphere was one of mystery and anticipation, which was much more than what I expected. Kudos to the thespians who displayed their talent to the hilt. And, praise to the mastermind who put this unforgettable show together. A loud applause to ALL!! Satisfaction...
Read moreMy daughter was in a recent production here for 101 Dalmatians and it was a wonderful experience for both of us. The price of the winter session was definitely affordable given the amount of effort that goes into the show and rehearsals. My daughter especially loved Miss Linda during the rehearsals. I think all the people that work here and devote their time and energy to this beautiful space are truly wonderful and very responsive and kid-friendly. All the children put on such a cute and adorable show it was really so enjoyable. They also have two summer camp sessions available, so lots of cool stuff...
