Movies in the Moonlight — Attraction in Town of Southampton

The owner of Movies in the Moonlight, Frank, is a consummate professional of the best kind- he approaches the work with tenacity, experience, and a wide open heart. So far, we’ve brought him in for two films as part of a summer of community events to address violence and addiction in our neighborhood and he was flexible in working with the pace of a community event through all stages. He is a pleasure to collaborate with and left everyone on my side feeling well supported.

Frank has custom built his gear and knows his equipment inside and out. We did our screenings surrounded by large housing complexes and in the middle of streetlights, but you can see above the picture was clear and beautiful. I also appreciated how well he welcomed all the community folks who showed up before the screening who were curious to watch the set up get built.

I have spent years working screenings in all capacities (including setting up outdoor projection like he does) and currently work as the film & video projection coordinator at Columbia University, so trust me when I say you won’t find any outfits as willing to go above and beyond as Movies in the Moonlight. Our second movie rain swept in for the last few minutes of the film, which Frank and his team handled swiftly and gracefully managed to ride the last bit of the film through the heavy rain as our audience hid out to finish the film under the shelter of a tree. Moments like that show a dedication and a genuine love of movies which I value above all else. We finished our second event last night and I’m already scheming ways to bring him back for a 3rd and 4th...

We used Movies in the Moonlight last summer for a birthday party. I worked with Frank, the owner, on the details of what I wanted as we had quite a few people coming. The day of the event, one of MITML crew, Philip, showed up and set up the screen before our guests arrived. ( I remembered his name as he was so accommodating and professional.) I was impressed how quickly he set up the screen and was ready to go. Everything went perfectly! I had a movie once before with one of those "blow up screens" but it was bit noisy and the screen moved when the wind blew distorting the image. I should mention that I live on the water, so the wind can be a challenge in setting something like this up, but it seems the team is well trained for taking these weather issues into account. I will use them again this summer for our 4th of July fireworks and movie party!...

Great experience working with owner Frank from Movies in the Moonlight. The Town of Southold Youth Bureau has been using Movies in the Moonlight for our Outdoor Summer Movies for the past 5 years. This year in 2020, Covid brought back the Drive-In movie experience. Frank was able to accommodate this new movie experience for our community and provided a much needed night out for all families.
