Refined Dining with Just a Few Misses at Dopo Argento, Southampton
Patrizia and I visited Dopo Argento in Southampton for a Sunday afternoon meal around 1 pm. The restaurant wasn’t crowded, which made for a calm and enjoyable atmosphere.
Starters: We ordered the sourdough bread service (not complimentary), which came with a hummus dip. The bread had a rustic, brick-oven style crust—crispy outside, soft inside—and paired nicely with our appetizer. We then split the Tuna Tartare, which was delicious, fresh, and beautifully prepared. That said, it was served on its own with no chips or crostini, so we ended up using the bread we had ordered. A small touch that would make a big difference.
Mains: Patrizia had the Salmon Oreganata. The portion was generous and cooked very well, but it arrived solo on the plate without any sides. We both felt it would shine more with a vegetable or starch—something like spinach, asparagus, or potato.
I chose the Paccheri Cacio e Pepe, which was excellent. The pasta was fresh, perfectly al dente, and the sauce had just the right balance of richness and peppery bite.
Drinks & Service: We started with two cocktails, then shared a crisp bottle of Italian sparkling water with our meal. Service was warm, efficient, and attentive, adding to the experience.
Dessert & Coffee: We finished with the Tiramisu, which was light, fluffy, and not overly sweet, alongside a cappuccino—a perfect close.
Overall: Our total came to about $235 for two, and we left a generous tip for the excellent service. We chose to sit indoors since it was too humid outside, but both options are available.
We’re giving 4 stars because of minor blemishes—the salmon plated all alone, and the tuna tartare lacking an accompaniment. Still, the food was excellent, the vibe relaxed, and the service top-notch. Definitely worth a visit—check it out before the summer ends and see...
Read moreWhen your five year old asks you why the person who works at the restaurant is so mean, you know there is something wrong. This review is specially directed towards the extremely rude hostess Adriana (or something close to that name). I left my 1 year old’s bottle outside. She came inside from where it was to rudely tell me I left it there. Instead of bringing it it, she proceeded to tell me she didn’t bring it in because she was too busy. Then when I went to check in to see if there was a high chair, she said it was the busboys responsibility and not hers. Mind you we are dining at 515pm, the restaurant is empty except for one other table and she is standing outside straightening menus. Mind blowing to receive this level of service.
The food was delicious, while portions were small. None of this would have been an issue nor would I have taken the time to write this review, but we were BLOWN AWAY that this type of attitude could be tolerated. We frequent all of the Dopos every summer and will not be returning to this location as long as Adriana (or the girl with the painted eyebrows) is there.

Read moreLovely. We were brought to a table outside ...and I was chilly, I asked if we could move and the Host graciously moved us inside. GREAT start. We settled in a very nice table, no attitude, no snootiness, no annoyance at our move. Immediately we were offered water, drinks. Great artwork on the walls. My husband and I shared a Caesar salad and rock shrimp - both very good - they split the salad without us even asking to start then my husband ordered a truffle pasta and I ordered a bolognese dish. Perfection. Literally - all-dente pasta (good pasta - the real deal), fresh sauce, fresh bread! We felt like we were in NYC (so hard to find good restaurants in the Hamptons.). We finished it off with dessert - I had some form of flourless cake with a coconut gelato and my husband had a speciality cheesecake. The staff is really nice, professional ...atmosphere is sexy and food is amazing. Our only regret was that we didn't find this restaurant before now! We will be repeat customers. Thank you for a...
