This was a beautiful little walk that meanders through fields of flowers and tiny woodlands. It crosses bridges and a stream. It mostly follows along the outside of a field and there are nice benches intermittently placed along the trail, each with a different view of the fields or mountains in the distance. I felt like a child again walking this trail in the early fall. There was an abundance of color, the varieties of flowers endless, purple loosestrife, milkweed in blossom, thistle, yellow black eyes susans, orange spotted touch-me-not's with their seed pods bursting, yarrow, daisies, lots of Japanese Knotweed which is surprisingly pretty and transports you to the East as you walk past the tall bushes that occasionally line the path. I made a pretty little wildflower bouquet just pickng one of each flower I saw. Didn't see much wildlife which surprised me however I saw another woman who appeared to be bird watching. There's a large covered bridge at about the halfway point that leads to a second trail that will bring you through the towns clustered around Windham. I stayed in the main trail amd walked leisurely stopping to say hello to the other hikers and their dogs and a quick detour to visit the streambed where the flowers really went berserk. There is a beautiful dark evergreen forest along the path as you walk back toward the parking lot, assuming you started the trail by turning right at the map and sign post. This is a very easy walk although a mile and half took me about 2 hrs! Very easy access and mostly flat. Great trail for little kids and those with disabilities that making walking tough or just for some time in the fresh air with incredible views around you. Highly...
Read moreThis a beautiful walking path. It is quiet and serene. Unfortunately, the local town supervisor wants to despair the quiet natural feeling of this gem. He wants to install not one but two little league ball fields. This will severely impact the natural environment. Also, it is truly a waste of taxpayer money. My children all played Tball and little league ball at the existing field. There is an issue with parking at the current location. It is easily solved by purchasing the decrepit house next door. Or the field across South Street. This would cost about the same or possibly less. The only numbers provided by the town are unsupported at this time. The town of Windham would gain by having more open level space for recreation. The Windham Path is best left alone. It truly appears that the town board of supervisors does not care one whit about the concerns of second homeowners. We may not have families that never left where they first moved to 150 years ago, but second homeowners pay the bills for this little town. The town board should have consideration of thei4 concerns. Building a parking lot for the little league meets its true requirements. Leaving the Path as it is allows visitors who may not be athletic enough to hike the state trails a place to walk while enjoying a...
Read moreThis is a lovely path for an easy stroll, great for families with kids. There are plenty of opportunities to take a rest and take in the beautiful views and nature. Prefer to go during the morning or afternoon as shade can be a bit scarce.. Some people do it on bikes. It should roughly take an hour to finish if you don't take any stops.
Last time I was there there was a kids story in parts throughout the path, I thought it would be super...
