My husband and I just spent 4 nights at the Albergo Allegria Bed & Breakfast Hotel and cannot recommend it enough for anyone looking to take in the fresh air of the Catskills. This was our first trip upstate from NYC so we weren’t sure what to expect but the Albergo Allegria was soo charming! Keep reading for details or feel free to stop here.
The Albergo Allegria is run and managed by a lovely husband and wife that do everything from check you in, cook you breakfast and start the fire pit. There is a delicious breakfast served from 8:00 - 9:30 am every morning with a rotating menu of made-to-order items (pancakes and western style omelet were our favorites) and continental style breakfast bar with freshly homemade breads, jams, fruit, juice, yogurt, granola and more. Everything we ate was amazing and everything is included with your stay. They try to source everything local so everything you’re eating is very fresh and tasty.
The rooms are named after the months of the year and we stayed in “January” which had a king bed, private porch and was very spacious. We were very content with our room. The grounds are absolutely lovely. There are multiple outdoor seating areas, some with fenced-in gazebos so you can sit outside and not worry about bugs. The grounds have gardens that are used in the kitchen and there was even a fire-pit that was lit every night upon request.
Maybe the most unique thing about Albergo Allegria was the Pantry. There is a literal pantry area in the kitchen for guests where they keep an endless supply of cookies, fresh baked goods leftover from breakfast and the daily 4:00 - 6:00 pm tea time, water, sodas and other snacks. They even supply everything you need for s’mores with the fire pit mentioned above....

I've been to at least 30 different places in the past few years, all highly rated, and even amongst those, this place stood out. It's small but charming, and the staff was friendly and quick. There's a self-serve coffee bar which I appreciated, and I filled up for the road, a nice little touch. My son ordered the pancakes and I got what I expected to be your typical eggs, bacon and toast. His pancakes were phenomenal, served with real maple syrup, fresh berries and whip cream. There's edible flowers on each plate, which I didn't eat, but made for a beautiful presentation (my son thought it was so cool he could eat them). My meal was equally delicious, and even as I'm typing this a week later, I'm still craving their bread and butter. No clue how it's made, but it's a thick piece of bread, perfectly toasted and the butter couldn't have tasted any better. Bacon was thick and cooked with the perfect amount of crispiness, something a lot of places fail to do. Portions were the perfect size, not too little, not too much.
On a side note, I'm always weary of larger portions as I've noticed the quality isn't as good.
After we received our check, the chef/owner stopped by our table to thank us ... We'll certainly stop back next time we're in the area, and as someone who frequently visits different breakfast spots across the US (mostly New England and Arizona) I'd highly recommend this...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I stayed for two nights in early October. I knew that we would be arriving late on a Thursday night, so I called the front desk and the man I spoke with was delightful. He assured me that he would be there when we arrived (around 9:30pm - the desk closes at 10pm), and he made check-in a breeze. Even though it was close to the desk closing time, he offered for us to browse their extensive DVD collection in case we wanted to watch a movie that night, and we were offered our menu to select what we wanted for breakfast the next morning. He was so kind and made us feel so welcome when we arrived.
The room was exactly what I expected from the description that I read online while booking. It was so cozy, the bed was outstandingly comfortable, and we had everything that we needed (toiletries, towels, extra pillows, etc.). I loved having a private patio attached to our room, as well as the electric fireplace to turn on when the night got cold.
The breakfast restaurant is absolutely delicious. Even better, the waitstaff was so attentive to our needs and made us feel special. I could rave about their food... I want to try one of everything on their menu, and their coffee!!! The coffee was some of the best I've had. The staff made sure our cups were full the whole time and that we had everything we needed while on site.
I would absolutely stay here again and I highly recommend Albergo Allegria to anyone looking for a stress free, relaxing and laid back experience in the northern Catskills. I'd give them a...
