I had what was my worse dining experience I have ever had at Union + Post this past Saturday. My friends and I made a reservation weeks in advance to celebrate our friends upcoming wedding. We had a reservation at 7 pm for 11 of us. We arrived promptly and was seated right away. We order drinks and apps which came out in a timely manner. Around 830, many of us started wondering where our food was and started getting frustrated with the lack of service when it came to refilling drinks. We spent almost 2 hours waiting for someone to come over and explain what was taking so long as we didn’t want to pester waitstaff who looked like they were extremely busy. We asked to speak to someone around 845 pm and were told a bunch of different excuses. There was a wedding, there’s a new menu, there’s new staff, and that they wanted to have all our meals out at the same time. They offered us apps and some drinks on the house. The apps ended up being a small plate of wings and asparagus. Our meals slowly started coming out one at a time around 9:30 pm. I ordered the pork chop and was finally served at 9:35 pm. I cut into the pork and saw that it was raw. I honestly at this point was so frustrated and starving that I wasn’t going to say anything and just eat the potatoes and carrots. But the carrots were burnt. My friend decided that she would tell the waitress. The waitress took the pork chop back to the kitchen around 940. At 10 pm,the waitress brought me the exact same pork chop and meal she had brought me the first time. The pork chop had just been reheated.I knew it was the same pork chop because of where I had cut into it. This time the pork chop was inedible. It was overcooked and rubbery. It was very disappointing to hear the owner of this restaurant dismiss all of our concerns. He repeatedly stated he was sorry without offering any solutions. I felt that it was absolutely bad business to make me pay for a pork chop that I couldn’t eat because it was insisted the dish was remade. It was not. It was just reheated. The restaurant has great decor and I love the patio. If this was handled better then we would of just let this go. The owner just made us feel like he didn’t care. He didn’t even bat an eyelash when told we would be following up with bad reviews. The food and owner literally left me with a bad taste...
Read moreUnion & Post became an oasis for us during a terrible time, and the staff’s kindness and generosity will not be forgotten. It was my birthday weekend and we booked an Airbnb down the road from U&P. We noted how cute the location was when we drove in, as we had made reservations for the following night for dinner. When we arrived to the Airbnb, it was filthy, and a complete disaster. That experience would take too long to explain, but we felt unsafe to sleep there, and while I was on the phone with Airbnb trying to get assistance (which.. there was none), my fiancé called U&P and explained our situation and asked if they had any open rooms. Luckily they did, and we headed there to stay for the night while we sorted out our Airbnb situation. The owner was waiting there for us and as soon as we walked in, clearly upset from what was going on, asked immediately if he could get us a drink. First round was on him. Just this little act of kindness in the middle of the chaos was SO appreciated. We only booked for one night as we weren’t sure what the outcome of the situation with Airbnb would be, and how I wish we stayed at U&P for the rest of the weekend. Even with getting refunded/a discount from Airbnb, where we ended up staying for the rest of the weekend was also less than ideal (also dirty, outdated, didn’t match the pictures at all). We learned our lesson — hotels for us from here on out! The room at U&P was clean, the bed was unbelievably comfortable, and the sleep we got there after such a crazy day was fantastic. When we did go back for dinner on the night of our reservation, the food was incredible! The pistachio ricotta cheesecake remains one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. While we’re not itching to go back to the Catskills any time soon, we know the next time we do we’ll certainly be staying with U&P. The stark contrast between AirBnb’s lack of care for our situation (not helping us until 5:00 the next day, still making us pay for most the first night even though we had to leave because of how filthy it was, etc) and U&P’s kindness sealed the deal. If you don’t stay, the cozy outdoor seating for dinner or the well crafted cocktails are certainly...
Read moreWife and I were staying nearby so we thought we would give this place a try.
We were there midweek in the summer so we didn't need reservations. From what we heard, you may need them on weekends.
Inside the place is inviting. You walk through the bar area and get to either the deck or the inside tables. We chose indoors as I really don't enjoy mosquitoes.
The staff was good. They knew the specials and we had the Caribbean black bean and beef soup to start. The waitress confided that it was a bit spicy. She may know her way around the tables but she didn't know spicy. Both the wife and I enjoy a little spice but this soup was more sweet than spicy. It was GREAT. Black beans, plenty of beef, potatoes, carrots and peas in a dark beef broth. I could have eaten another bowl or two, but more delights waited. Even the wife ate all her soup, so not spicy at all. Delicious.
The wife had the mushroom ravioli. She was not super enthusiastic about it. Mushrooms don't provide much taste on their own and neither does ravioli. Her suggestion was to cook it some red wine sauce but she only cooks for me so what can I say?
I ordered the lobster mac and cheese. It was a huge portion. The lobster blended with the mac and cheese quite well. The portion was ample, it tasted great and even the wife ate a fair amount.
We were both too full for dessert, even though the waitress tried to sell us on it.
All in all, well worth trying if you are in the area. We will be back if...
